Chapter 7
I asked Rachel what Samuel would do if he knew the truth.
She didn’t hesitate. “He’d rush back to you, no question. He’d do anything to save your son.
“I swear, that man still loves you. You have no idea how panicked he was when you passed out!”
Even my best friend could see that Samuel still loved me.
Six years ago, he was willing to die for me.
Now, I was sure he would sacrifice himself to save Eddie.
And that was the very thing I feared most.
I told Rachel everything–about the events from six years ago.
By the time I finished, she was crying uncontrollably.
“So that’s what happened…”
Now, the sixty thousand dollars for the surgery was finally raised, I could finally have the remaining kidney transplanted to
Eddie.
Gripping Rachel’s hand, I asked her for one last thing.
“After I’m gone, take the letter I wrote and have Eddie give it to Samuel.”
In this lifetime, I had already shared my life with the two men I loved most.
That was enough.
I wouldn’t leave with any regrets.
“Eddie has already accepted you as his godmother, Rachel. From now on, please watch over him and help him grow for me.”
Rachel couldn’t hold back anymore.
She collapsed at my knees, sobbing uncontrollably.
Over the next two days, I stayed in the hospital to continue my recovery.
But I noticed that the nurses‘ gazes toward me had suddenly changed.
“Ugh, I thought she was Mr. Shaw’s lover. Turns out she’s just a shameless woman!”
“Didn’t you notice that Mr. Shaw hasn’t been coming to the hospital these past few days? He must have seen the news online!”
Hearing the whispers, I grabbed my phone, which I hadn’t checked in a while, and started scrolling.

Chapter 7
To my surprise, a video had gone viral.
In the footage, Samuel was carrying me, unconscious and drenched in alcohol, out of a hotel.

Becky, dressed in a pink gown, was crying and chasing after us, but Samuel, looking frantic, shoved her aside with one arm,
sending her to the ground.
“What the hell? Is this the ex–wife Samuel mentioned in his interview–the one he said abandoned him when he was sick, just for
money?”
“Samuel still went out of his way to hurt his current girlfriend for a gold digger like that? Is Loretta using some kind of spell on
him?”
“I have a friend who was at the hotel that day. Apparently, Loretta caused a scene at the birthday party, accusing everyone of
bullying her and Eddie.
“She even purposely got herself drunk and pretended to go crazy. My friend said her fainting was all part of the act!”
The comments under the video were flooded with insults and slander aimed at me.
I turned off the screen, a bitter, silent laugh escaping my lips.
