Chapter 6
When I woke up, I found myself in a hospital.
The room was spacious and outfitted with top–tier equipment–clearly a private facility.

Beside me, there was even a small bed where Eddie slept soundly, his injuries carefully treated.
Two nurses were adjusting the monitors nearby, unaware that I was awake.
“Mr. Shaw must really care about her. He carried her all the way in, wouldn’t even let the doctors take over.”
“They even cleared out all the top specialists just to run a full examination on Ms. Lee. Talk about making a statement.”
Before I could say anything, Samuel walked in.
The nurses immediately fell silent, quietly slipping out of the room.
Samuel pulled up a chair and sat across from me.
Neither of us spoke.
The silence between us was thick, almost suffocating.
In the end, he was the first to break it.
“The doctor said you and Eddie are both malnourished. In this day and age, how is it possible that you can’t even afford to eat
properly?
“Loretta, after leaving me and ending up like this… do you regret it?”
I lowered my lashes, staring at the stark white bedsheet, refusing to answer.
Samuel let out what sounded like a quiet sigh, then reached for a container of strawberries on the bedside table.
“Eat some fruit.”
I waited for him to hand them to me, but after a few seconds, nothing happened.
When I looked up, I realized he was carefully plucking the leaves off each strawberry, focused as if he were handling a
multimillion–dollar contract.
A lump formed in my throat, and for a moment, I almost cried again.
Six years had passed, yet he still hadn’t forgotten.
I loved strawberries but was too lazy to bite around the leafy tops.
Back then, Samuel would patiently remove them, one by one, before feeding them to me.
