“Loretta even went as far as to find out whether you could have children or not. She must have put in quite the effort.”
“Mr. Shaw, you can’t seriously be raising another man’s bastard for free! What if their next move is to work together and get rid of you to take over your whole fortune?”
Becky suddenly covered her face, her sobs wracking her body as tears streamed down her cheeks.
“Loretta, Sam is only twenty–eight, still in his prime. How could you be so vicious, cursing us to never have children?”

Those words finally made Samuel hesitate.
He glanced at me and Rachel in confusion, as if he, too, found the whole thing suspicious.
The wealthy woman panicked and pinched the boy in her arms hard.
The chubby child immediately burst into loud wails.
“Mr. Samuel! That little bastard in your arms tried to steal my gold necklace! That’s why we were fighting!”

His mother gasped dramatically, claiming that the diamond–studded gold pendant was worth over twenty thousand dollars,
insisting my son must have been jealous and wanted to take it.
The boy’s friends quickly chimed in, adding that before Samuel arrived, I had viciously beaten them.
One of them even tilted his face to reveal a few red scratches, marks left from when I had slapped him in desperation.
“A lying mother and a thieving son–what a perfect match! Mr. Shaw, a filthy brat like that could never be yours!”
Samuel took a deep breath, his gaze locking onto me, sharp and unyielding.
“Loretta, is Eddie really my son? I want to hear the truth from you. As long as you say it, I’ll believe you.”
The room fell into a suffocating silence.
Dozens of eyes turned to me, waiting.
Becky bit her lip so hard it nearly drew blood, the jealousy and hatred in her eyes almost tangible.
Bracing myself against the floor, I struggled to my feet, wobbling slightly.
Then, I pried my son from Samuel’s arms and pulled him back into my embrace.
“Of course not.”
The moment the words left my lips, Samuel’s eyes snapped shut.
A vein bulged at his temple.
Rachel nearly jumped in frustration, yelling that I was crazy and asking why I would lie.
I merely smiled faintly.
“Sixty thousand dollars is enough to last for a while. No point pushing my luck.”
When Samuel opened his eyes again, they were pitch–black, like a bottomless abyss, colder than the dead of winter.
“Get out.”
“Out!“
Tears spilled down my cheeks as I buried my face into Eddie’s neck.
I didn’t want Samuel to see me cry.
Just like six years ago, I had to hold back my tears until I got into a taxi.
Because I knew that Samuel was following me all the way to the hospital entrance.
It was as if he was waiting, hoping I would turn back. Just once.
But whether it was that day or today, I was destined to disappoint him.
Holding Eddie tightly, I took slow, steady steps toward the private room’s door.
But before I could get far, my vision went black, and in an instant, I lost consciousness.
