How could something happen to her the moment she left his side?
“It’s all part of an act, Isn’t it? Ashlyn asked you to play along, didn’t she? That’s it, isn’t it? Just tell me! She’s right there with you, isn’t she? Put her on, let me hear her voice!” Jeremy was shouting, and veins were bulging on his neck.
There was a pause on the other end before the volce finally responded in a calm and regretful tone. “Mr. Wirkola, we’ve contacted the police and the rescue team. I’m sure it won’t take long before…”
Jeremy could not hear the rest. His mind was spiraling, filled with only the thought that Ashlyn had fallen into the sea and was missing. He grabbed his jacket and walked quickly toward the door like a man possessed.
Jessie bit her lip. Frustration flashed across her face. “Grant, Jeremy, don’t panic. Maybe Ashlyn is just trying to scare you both. I mean, with that many people around, how could a car just drive off a bridge? She’s angry, so she probably wants you to panic and then come begging for her forgiveness. Honestly, how can someone her age be so immature? She hasn’t changed a bit, still as
willful and spoiled as ever.”
Jeremy stopped. Slowly, his panic began to ebb. Jessie was right. He had people watching Ashlyn, so how could something have happened to her?
he was mad
Jessie had to be right. Ashlyn was just hiding to scare them because she was
Besides, she was terrified of water. There was no way she would ever go near a bridge.
Yet no matter how hard Jeremy tried to calm himself, the sinking feeling in his stomach refused to go away.
Just then, a video was sent to Jeremy’s phone. In the footage, two cars collided violently. A black vehicle rammed into the barrier and flipped over the edge. The driver barely managed to push the door open and jump out.
Seconds later, the car plunged into the sea. In the grainy footage, he could see a slim and frail figure tied up inside. She was dragged down with the sinking wreckage.

Jeremy felt the blood rush to his head, then rush out in an instant like he had fallen into a frozen abyss. He recognized that car.
It was the one that was supposed to take Ashlyn home.
Ashlyn… Did something really happen to his sister?
‘s my sister! Who that
Jessie was still talking when Jeremy snapped. “shut up! No matter what Ashlyn has done, do you think you are, criticizing her like that?”
Jeremy did not know what had come over him. On any other day, he probably would have agreed with everything Jessie said, but hearing Jessie say those things today felt like needles under his skin.
It made something in him snap.
For a moment, the room fell completely silent. Grant watched the shifting expression on Jeremy’s face. His tone was hesitant when he asked, “Did… Did something really happen to Ashlyn?”
Jeremy could not care about anything else anymore and charged out the door. He had to find Ashlyn. He had to find his sister..
It was his fault. He had made a terrible mistake. As long as Ashlyn was safe, he would pay any price.
When he thought about how terrified and helpless she looked when he turned and left, when he remembered her desperate voice, Jeremy felt like he could not breathe.
Darn it, what the hell had he done?
She was his little sister, the girl he had always protected growing up.
Even if she was a little spoiled, their family had the right to it. How could he have hurt her for an outsider?
Jeremy rushed to the scene as fast as he could. The entire bridge had been sealed off. At the center, the guardrail was completely smashed through. Below it, the ocean stretched out dark and bottomless.
Jeremy could not bear to imagine what it meant to fall from there.
