All heads turned to look at him as he entered.
I faced the newcomer with a grin and teased Jeffrey, saying, “You know, you’re not the only son of the Grahams. I can’t call off
the marriage that they’re so set on, but I sure can pick who I marry.”
Jeffrey’s eyes narrowed, a mix of confusion and doubt on his face.
“Ella, what’s your plan?”
Ignoring his question, I walked over to Daniel Graham with a smile. He had not changed much and was still as handsome as ever
with those deep, mysterious eyes.
I took Daniel’s hand, turned to the crowd, and declared, “If Jeffrey’s heart is set on someone else, it wouldn’t be right to force him
to marry me. Daniel and I have already fallen for each other. So, let’s make it simple–I’ll marry him, and everyone can stay
happy.”
The room buzzed with different reactions.
Anthony kept a poker face, but Wendy could not hide her shock. She was the first to speak up.
“No way, Ella! Don’t you like Jeffrey? How could you and Daniel be a thing all of a sudden? You’re just mad at the dumb stuff
Jeffrey has done, aren’t you? Don’t worry, I’ll set him straight. You can’t marry Daniel.”
It looked like even the Grahams knew Jeffrey was a piece of work.
Mom and Dad did not say a word, but their silence said it all—they were okay with me and Daniel.
For two whole years, they had been unhappy with Jeffrey. If it was not for remembering how the Graham family helped the Blake family when we almost went broke 20 years ago, the Blake family would have ended this marriage arrangement a long time ago.
Anthony was all about business. To him, making money was the most important thing.
