Chapter 13
Gabriel’s face and body were covered in mud and soil from the mountain. His sharp suit was dirty and torn, and his arms were covered in scratches from rocks and branches. He hadn’t done anything to them, though
A trace of joy flashed in his eyes when he saw Quinn awake. He’d never cried even when Steven had chased after him to scold him, yet he burst into aggrieved tears then. “I’m never making you catch the sunrise with me anymore.”
Sho reached out to wipe away his tears and smiled gently. “Don’t worry, I won’t die. How did you get me down the mountain?”
No ambulance could’ve gotten up the mountain because of its treacherous slopes. It looked like Gabriel had gone through a lot to get her to the foot of the mountain.
“I don’t know. My mind went blank, and all I could think about was not wanting you to die.” He couldn’t stop his hands from trembling at the thought of the perilous situation. He would’ve spent the rest of his life in pain and regret if something really had happened to Quinn then.
While she’d been unconscious, he hadn’t stopped questioning and berating himself for dragging her up that mountain.
“I’m fine, so you can stop worrying.” A trace of something odd flickered in Quinn’s heart when she saw Gabriel holding her hand. tightly. Their gazes met before quickly flitting away.
After the incident, Quinn felt like her relationship with Gabriel had changed slightly.
He insisted on having her stay at the hospital for a couple more days, even going so far as to have a full medical checkup done. He only agreed to have her discharged once he was sure she was fine.
“Thanks for everything you’ve done, Gabe. You should head home to get some rest–I can care for myself now,” Quinn said.
At her words, he looked at her hesitantly.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Maybe you should see this for yourself.” Gabriel didn’t want her to have anything more to do with Nicholas, but he respected her opinion. This matter had to do with her, so she had the right to know.
He handed her his phone. Only then did she find out her name had been on the list of trending topics for days.
It turned out Nicholas had written a script just for her. He’d even announced on his social media account that the leading lady would only be her. He’d also proclaimed that he would find her wherever she was.
Quinn wasn’t moved in the slightest by this. She only felt annoyed.
