Anderson had been feeding the enforcers information the whole time, and hence, his sentence was reduced. In the end, he was sentenced to three years in prison and stripped of his status within the pack. My friend finished telling me all this and then
sighed, shaking her head.
“That’s why they say karma always comes around. It’s better to be a good wolf in the first place.”
I took a sip of red wine and said calmly, “That’s right.”
Seeing how indifferent I was, she couldn’t help but add. “You probably don’t know this, but Anderson went insane looking for you
that day. He asked everyone who might know where you were.
When he heard you had left the pack and gone to the dangerous Icebourne, he lost control so badly he couldn’t even maintain his
human form for days. People never appreciate what they have until they’ve lost it. So many wolves have regretted it, but they
never seem to learn.”
I let out a cold laugh. “Maybe it’s just in their nature to be pathetic.
“Don’t bring him up in front of me again. He’s disgusting.”
Anderson had been a wounded pup when my mother found him and brought him into the pack. Despite his injuries, he was
naturally gifted and born with the makings of a leader.
As the successor to the elder’s seat, my mother broke tradition and took him in as her student, guiding him every step of the way.
Back then, he was the pride of the pack. I had a crush on him, and he protected me.
He knew exactly what Leah and Maryanne had done–how they had forced their way between my mother and her mate.
At first, he stood up for me. He even publicly called Leah and Maryanne shameless during a banquet for the pack. But after they
spent a full moon night together, everything changed.
I was supposed to be with them that night, but I was struck by a fever that burned through the entire night as if I had been cursed. I was forced to stay in a hospital ward. When the full moon night ended, I ignored my unhealed body and went to find Anderson.
But I saw the way he looked at me and at my mother. It was filled with nothing but contempt. Leah nestled in his arms with
satisfaction.
He wrapped her in his leather coat and reassured her in a gentle voice, “Leah, don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Under the dark sky, before the sun had even risen, all my hopes were crushed to dust.
