happening! If you dare to do that, I’ll take you to court and sue you for industrial espionage! Neither of us will walk away
unscathed. Whatever you’ve taken behind my back, you’ll cough it all up!”
Í looked at Allison’s relentless attitude and her cutting words, feeling completely disheartened. In her eyes, it seemed like our
relationship never mattered. Everything had changed the moment Aaron returned from abroad.
I shrugged helplessly. “Who William chooses to collaborate with is his decision. As the CEO of his corporation, do you really think he’d change his mind just because of a few words from me? You underestimate him.”
Perhaps my response sounded reasonable, but Allison still couldn’t wrap her head around why William would suddenly change his stance. Just moments ago, he had shown interest in working with them.
At that moment, her phone rang again. This time, it was calls from several other vendors.
One after another–five calls in total–they all requested to cancel their collaborations.
Allison was completely dumbfounded. “How could this happen? Why would everyone suddenly want to back out?”
She had no idea that, on my way back to the office, I had messaged all the key business partners we’d been working with, informing them of my resignation. I also mentioned that my colleagues would continue handling their projects if they chose to
proceed.
Several business leaders immediately reached out to me, offering opportunities. Many even stated outright that they’d
collaborate with whichever company I joined next.
Allison scrutinized me as if she still suspected something.
On the other hand, Aaron, in his typical self–assured manner, tried to console her, “Allison, could this all be a misunderstanding? I don’t believe Eric is the kind of person to do something like this. Besides, for every single partner to cancel at the same time-
this isn’t something just anyone could pull off, right?”
As he spoke, Aaron gave me a look, his expression laden with unspoken meaning. It was as if he was implying that I did not have that kind of influence. Unfortunately for him, the moment he underestimated me was the moment he made his gravest mistake.
Allison’s rationality seemed to return, and she nodded in agreement. “You’re right. I’ve been giving you too much credit, Eric. You’re just a low–level marketing specialist. Do you really have the power to disrupt all my partnerships?”

Seeing that I was still standing there, Allison slammed a stack of documents onto the floor. “What are you still doing here? I don’t want to see you right now.”
I knew she didn’t want to deal with me at the moment, but before leaving, I made sure to remind her, “I’ll have my lawyer draft the divorce papers and send them over soon.”
In response, Allison hurled a cup onto the floor vehemently.
I returned home and quickly packed my belongings. After three years of marriage, everything I owned fit into a small suitcase. I smiled faintly, placed the house keys on the entryway table, and walked out the door without looking back.
