Chapter 7 Enigmatic man
When Zane saw the report showing a 99% DNA match, he nearly broke into tears from sheer relief.]
If he had truly let Leora carry another man’s child due to his own recklessness, then he wasn’t just a beast–he was worse.]
But the next message shattered him all over again.]
It was a medical repon.[]
Leora had suffered a miscarriage–severe hemorrhaging caused by that day’s fall on the stairs. Because he had taken Vanessa’s side. Because he had kicked her when she was already down
Zane clutched his head and began slapping himself again and again, sobbing uncontrollably by the end.[]
He was drowning in guilt, and in desperation, he grabbed his phone, scrolled through his contacts, and called Leora over and over again.
But Leora was already gone.
At that moment, Leora had quietly boarded a plane to another country–alone, unannounced.
She hadn’t told anyone. Not her parents, not her friends. She disappeared from that suffocating city, carrying nothing but a divorce certificate and a shattered heart.]
She changed her phone number, deleted her social media, and vanished.]
She wanted a new beginning, even if that path was paved with thorns.
After settling overseas, Leora started a new life, enrolling in advanced courses at a university and resuming the studies she had abandoned.
Hyr days were filled with lectures, work, and books–her life stretched tight like a bowstring
Until one right, an old friend called out of the blue.[]
On the other end of the line came a name she thought she’d never hear again.
Zane? You wouldn’t believe it.. he’s gone mad. Really mad. I heard he’s drinking himself into oblivion every night, and he’s driving his company into the ground.
“And.. he’s looking for you. Hasn’t stopped. Like he won’t rest until he finds you.
Leora froze, the phone pressed to her ear in stunned silence.
She had thought that hearing Zane’s name again would only bring disgust.
But to her surprise, her chest tightened. A sharp, unexpected ache stabbed at her heart.]
She didn’t respond
She simply hung up, grabbed her coat, and walked into the nearest bar.]
The neon lights were dazzling. The music thundered in her chest. The scent of alcohol and sweat and desire hung heavy in the air.
Leora ordered a tequila at the bar.]
That night, she wore a black slit dress–elegant, sultry, with a touch of cold indifference. Like a black rose blooming at midnight, she drew every gaze in the room.
“You look like someone who just won a war or lost something worth fighting for.
The voice was low, smooth, and wickedly attractive.
Leora turned her head.
The man beside her had chiseled features and soft, tousled dark hair. His eyes were deep, his smile lazy, and his presence magnetic–like a knight pulled from a dream she never meant to have
“Which one are you?” she asked, raising a brow, a hint of tipsy mischief in her eyes.
He leaned in close, voice brushing her skin like velvet. “I’m usually the third type–the one who brings the antidote.
They drank. They talked nonsense. She never told him her name, and he never asked.
Later, under flickering lights and burning glances, the air grew thick
As she staggered into his sleek car, her fingers toyed with the buttons of his shirt, her lips tinged with tequila and mint. He whispered in her ear, “You can still back out now
But I don’t want to.
She curled into his chest, eyes glinting with something wild–something free.
When the hotel door clicked shut behind them, so did her restraint.]
She kissed him first–desperate, hungry, as if pouring years of grief and pain into every touch.
They tangled from doorway to bed, from midnight into dawn]
The next morning sunlight poured in through sheer curtains.
Leora sat at the edge of the bed, watching the man still sleeping beside her.[]
He was peaceful, features striking even in repose, a faint smile on his lips.]
She stood quietly, got dressed, and left–without a sound
As if she’d never been there
What she didn’t know was–this stranger wasn’t so easily forgotten.
And he had no intention of letting her gol
Two months later, in a private lab, Lees was busy with her report A junior to her took lunch to the laboratory. While she was having lunch, Leora’s stomach churned because of the faint smell of fish made.!]

She dropped the unfinished experiment and went to the bathroom to retch for quite a while
Leara, why are you reacting so strongly? You’re not pregnant, are you?“]
The words stunned Leura, and her face became even paler.[]
She thought, “Pregnant? No way… It can’t be so coincidental, right? Did I hit the jackpot?“]
But the truth was cruel!
In the hospital, the female doctor handed over a check–up report to Leora and specifically pointed out the position of the fetus. “Ms. Bradley, congratulations. You are indeed pregnant! The fetus is about seventy days old now, and it’s in a stable condition
Hearing that, Leora froze. Her body shook, and she managed to maintain her balance by holding on to the wall
She was pregnant… for real!
But she had no idea who the father was!]
Who was the man that had sex with her that night?
The pain of her miscarriage a year ago loomed large, and she still hadn’t gotten over the tragic memories of that year, which made her subconsciously resist the arrival of this new life.[]
She lingered in the corridor of the hospital for a long time before she finally rushed into the doctor’s office. “… Doctor, I don’t want the baby. I want an abortion.
“What?
The doctor’s smile froze in an instant. She was surprised that Leora, a seemingly young, delicate girl, could be this cruel She couldn’t help but say, “Ms. Bradley, are you sure? Wouldn’t it be a pity if you…“]
… I don’t want it!” Leora grabbed the doctor’s arm even tighter. She then pleaded, “I want an abortion. Now!“]
Leora took off her shoes and lay down on the operating table. Even though she was mentally prepared, her body was still cold.]
She thought she had moved on from her past, but the changes in her body awakened deep–seated fears.[]
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to welcome this child, she just, really wasn’t ready to face a new little life again.
“Baby, I’m sorry…” stroking her belly, Leora said reluctantly.
Just as the operation was about to begin, the door of the operating room was kicked open with a bang. Men in black suits swarmed in, making the entire operating room crowded instantly.[]
