Even though Anathea hadn’t said anything at the time, Jenny still felt those words must have hurt her.
Xander also remembered that he hadn’t been very nice to Anathea. But a child’s temper changed quickly. “I’ll apologize to Mom,
then. She’ll forgive me, right?”
In his mind, as long as he apologized, everything would be fine. Adults usually didn’t hold grudges against kids, after all.
Before Jenny could say anything else, Xander immediately ran toward Anathea. “Mom.”
He seemed to know that whenever he called Anathea softly, she would stop. Hence, he now spoke to her softly and sweetly, as if
he were trying to charm her.
Sure enough, Anathea stopped walking. Xander’s heart leaped with joy. He quickly walked up to her and apologized earnestly,
“Mom, I’m sorry for being rude to you.”
When Anathea didn’t respond, Xander assumed she’d already forgiven him. So, he said eagerly, “Mom, I’m hungry. Can you
make tomato and ham risotto for me? Only yours tastes the best!”
He even complimented her, hoping it would make her happy. He thought she’d surely agree to his request if she was happy.
However, Anathea still didn’t answer. Instead, she placed a hand on the staircase railing, looking a little off.
?” Xander was confused.
“Mom?”
He thought she was about to refuse him and instantly grew anxious. “Mom, I’m really sorry. Can you forgive me?”
His question was met with silence.
Xander frowned, wondering why Anathea wasn’t answering him. Was she ignoring him on purpose? Did she not want to talk to him? Was she really that petty?
“Mom, don’t be mad at me, okay?” Xander grabbed her fingers and refused to let go. As he spoke, he shook her hand vigorously, trying to get her attention. “Okay?”
Anathea still remained silent.
Xander finally lost his patience. “Why won’t you talk to me?”
He yanked his hand away forcefully. But in the next moment, Anathea lost her balance and collapsed onto the floor.
“Mom!” Xander saw her fall unconscious and immediately burst into tears.
Hearing the commotion, Jenny and Thomas rushed over. “Mrs. Sinclair!”
“What happened? She was fine when she came back. Why did she suddenly faint?” Jenny’s voice quivered with panic.
Thomas frowned. Seeing the unnatural flush on Anathea’s pale face, he reached out to feel her forehead. “She’s burning up!

the doctor right away!”
Without another word, he slipped an arm under Anathea’s legs and lifted her into his arms, carrying her to the bedroom on the
third floor.
Jenny froze for a moment as she watched Thomas carry Anathea upstairs. Then, she snapped back to reality and quickly dialed the family doctor.
At Sinclair Group, the setting sun cast golden light through the glass windows, tinting the entire room with a warm glow.
Gregory sat on the couch, staring at the empty seat across from him. He was lost in thought.
He recalled the scene from a few days ago when he’d locked Anathea in here without giving her a choice. That day, the sunlight had been just as beautiful. And beneath the sunlight, her skin had glowed flawlessly. Her skin had been smooth to the touch, the sensation almost dangerously intoxicating.
For a long time, he’d wanted this–to tear apart all of Anathea’s pretenses of pride and drag her into an abyss she could never escape from.
But when he’d finally done it–when he saw the absolute despair in her expression–he felt an unexpected pang of guilt and regret over his own actions. Gregory furrowed his brows.”
