Chapter 40
The unexpected movement caught Anathea off guard, and she stumbled straight into Gregory’s arms. Anathea was startled. She
instinctively tried to get up, but Gregory held her down, leaving her unable to move.
“You…” Before Anathea could finish her sentence, Gregory had already pinned her down on the couch, leaving her no chance to
speak.
Anathea was shocked as there were people outside.
Gregory sneered. “Aren’t you afraid? Let me help you.”
Anathea tried to resist. She felt her heart race, fear coursing through her veins. She couldn’t go through with this. “Gregory, please don’t…”
She stopped begging Gregory and accepted it. Meanwhile, Gregory remained indifferent. A persistent noise filled her mind, leaving her frozen in disbelief.
Just then, someone knocked on the office door.
“Mr. Sinclair?” It was Martin.
Anathea saw a glimmer of hope when she saw Martin pushing the office door open slightly.
“Get out!” Gregory shouted.
Martin was stunned. He’d rarely seen Gregory lose his temper like this.
Gregory was always calm and composed at the company, never appearing rattled even in a crisis. Despite challenges and seemingly hopeless situations, he’d consistently guided the team through difficult projects with steady leadership.
He was formidable and steadfast. He was the pillar of support that everyone depended on and the icon they all looked up to. Yet, at this moment, his emotions appeared to be unusually erratic.

The atmosphere in the office was stifling, and Martin gulped nervously, feeling an immediate sense of intimidation. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a brief glimpse of Anathea on the couch.
In that instant, he grasped the situation. Without another word, he immediately stepped out and shut the door behind him.
“Martin-“Anathea’s plea for help was completely cut off as the door shut.
What followed felt like a torrential storm, lightning crackling through the CEO’s office in Sinclair Group. And Anathea was the one caught in the downpour, teetering on the edge.
All her resistance and struggles were futile. She was forced to turn around, her body pressed against the cold glass. Gregory gripped her chin, forcing her to open her eyes and look outside.
Every word he said pierced her heart. “Anathea, take a good look. You have no right to negotiate with me.”

In truth, she didn’t even deserve to step foot into the CEO’s office in Sinclair Group. The only reason he’d permitted her presence here was to ensure she grasped the harsh truth of her situation.
“Who do you think you are to bargain with me? To come and go as you please when things don’t go your way?” Gregory asked
harshly,
The thought of Anathea with another man and her selling their wedding ring fueled his anger. Now, she still had the nerve to ask
him for help again. His fury burned so intensely, it felt as if it would consume her whole.
Anathea’s fingers scraped against the cold glass, desperately trying to keep herself from making a sound, afraid of drawing attention from the people outside. Yet, her face was already stained with silent tears.
However, Gregory took in all of her vulnerability, and it only made him even crueler.
Finally, she couldn’t bear it any longer. Her nails dragged against the glass with a sharp, grating sound that pierced the tense. silence. She felt the weight of someone outside fixating on her, witnessing her humiliation and shame.
At that moment, she felt something inside her break. Her vision blurred, and her eyes began to lose focus.
Time seemed to blur before the storm that ravaged Anathea finally began to subside. Her delicate hair was damp with sweat, clinging messily to her forehead. She was drained and slid downward.
Seeing this, Gregory instinctively reached out, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her back up. He gripped her shoulder, turning her toward him.
His
gaze landed on her pale and emotionless face. The cold indifference in his eyes wavered for a moment, softening just slightly. “Anathea?”
Anathea remained silent, her eyes unfocused. The dried tear stains on her cheeks only highlighted her vulnerability. She appeared so fragile that she looked as if she might break apart at any moment.
