Chapter 26
Anathea’s breath hitched. She hadn’t done anything to deserve such condescension.
She was already agitated from what happened earlier that night. It didn’t help that Gregory was pinching her chin so hard that it hurt. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he had to degrade her with his words, too.
Resentment and rage welled up in Anathea. Without another thought, she sank her teeth into the skin between Gregory’s thumb
and index finger.
Gregory hissed sharply as pain and outrage flickered across his face. “Are you rabid all of a sudden, Anathea? Let go!”
Anathea ignored his command and bit him even harder as if in revenge. What did he take her for? Even if he hated her, he had no right to degrade her. Tears stung her eyes as bitterness overwhelmed her.
“Anathea!” Gregory seethed through gritted teeth, clenching her wrist. “If you don’t let go the next second, I’ll—”
He was cut off when a teardrop fell on the back of his hand. He froze, staring at the droplet nestled between his knuckles.
As far as he could recall, Anathea hardly ever cried, not even when he tormented her in bed. At most, she’d glower at him hatefully to express her pain and resentment, save for the last time they slept together.
And yet, she was crying now. She’d only shed a tear, but it was enough to make Gregory purse his lips grimly. He ground out, “Why are you crying when you bit me first?”
Only then did Anathea release him, albeit wordlessly. She didn’t want to give him the satisfaction by reacting. In truth, she had no
idea why she’d started crying all of a sudden.
Before she’d married Gregory, her parents had loved and protected her so much that they’d never allowed her to shed a tear. It was almost as if she’d saved her tears for over 20 years of her life only to waste them all in the five years she’d been married to
Gregory.
How ironic.
Anathea wiped the tears from her cheek and shoved Gregory away, then walked off to the side.
“I’m talking to you!” Gregory snapped, furious that she treated him as if he was invisible.
However, Anathea didn’t stop, and she didn’t seem to hear him, either. She needed to put on her pajamas now. The towel wasn’t
enough to make her feel safe.
Gregory was used to having Anathea’s attention, and he couldn’t stand her indifference now. “Anathea!” he growled, reaching out to grab her wrist. But instead of grabbing her wrist, he hauled the towel right off her.
Anathea felt the chill on her skin. When she noticed Gregory holding the towel, she blanched. She desperately tried to shield
herself with her arms.

Unfortunately, her arms weren’t enough to cover every part of her modesty. Panic overcame her, and in her fumbling, she felt a
bolt of pain shoot up from her ankle. She lost her footing and fell to the carpeted floor.
A strange silence cut through the building tension in the room.
Gregory went wholly still as his gaze landed on Anathea’s body. She’d always had a stunning figure. Her proportions and
silhouette were nothing short of modelesque, and her alabaster skin was flawless.
All he could see now was her slender waist and her ample bosom that was barely concealed by her arm. He noted the way her
chest rose and fell as she breathed.
The shower she’d taken had left a dewy glow on her supple skin, which reminded Gregory of smooth double cream.
The fear and panic in Anathea’s misty eyes added a touch of fragility to her beauty. She looked like a frightened woodland
creature, one that could easily win over any hunter’s pity.
Gregory stared at her imperiously as he towered over her, his throat bobbing.
Anathea’s heart thumped violently under her ribcage as she curled into herself. She’d noticed the way Gregory’s eyes had
darkened and felt her body tense out of trauma.
He’d had the same look on his face every time they’d tangled in the sheets together, and those times, she’d been sure he’d been
trying to kill her in bed.
She prayed that things wouldn’t go the way she feared. He was supposed to be obsessed with Natalie, after all.
Anathea lowered her gaze, but before she could dwell on her trepidation, Gregory leaned forward. The next second, his towering
figure loomed over her. 1
