Before Dominic reached the private room, he even went to the restroom to adjust his clothes in the mirror. He initially just planned to have dinner, not expecting to see Jane. But after learning of her presence, he couldn’t wait for another encounter.
He quickly tidied himself up and went to the door of the private room.
Before opening the door, he’d imagined Jane’s possible reactions: she might still be angry and unforgiving, or she might have
moved on, treating him as a mere acquaintance.
He believed he could accept either outcome. As long as he saw Jane again, he was confident he could rekindle her feelings.
He never considered, however, that she would have a boyfriend, and be on the verge of marriage.
The word “fiancé” was like a bucket of ice water, chilling him to the bone. His heart felt like it was being squeezed, making it hard
to breathe.
He desperately hoped Jane would say it was a joke, that Marcus was just her junior colleague. But she didn’t.
He heard her friends‘ increasingly excited chatter, moving from discussing bridesmaids to godmothers for future children.
He couldn’t hold back any longer! After uttering that question, Dominic pushed open the door. His gaze immediately fell on Jane
and Marcus’s intertwined hands.
The palpable intimacy between them stole his breath.
However, I didn’t care what Dominic was thinking. We’d broken up two years ago. To me, Dominic was merely a familiar stranger. His appearance at this celebratory gathering disrupted the joyous atmosphere.
And he asked such a nonsensical question. I’d clearly stated my desire to break up when I left two years ago. What did he mean
now?
I frowned at him, my tone impatient. “What are you doing here? We broke up two years ago.”
Feeling a tickle in my palm, I turned to see Marcus’s mournful expression. I chuckled, tightening my grip on his hand. I’d have to
comfort him later.
Marcus, who had been subtly holding my hand, sensed Dominic’s intense gaze. But he wasn’t one to back down. He immediately
put his arm around my waist, a clear display of possession.
Alexa, who had been watching the scene unfold, couldn’t stand it any longer. She stepped forward, her face cold. “Dominic, you
chose that woman two years ago. What are you doing here now?”
Dominic seemed not to hear, his gaze fixed on me. “Jane, this is all a lie, right? You’re doing this to make me angry, aren’t you?”
