His anger surged. With a sudden burst of fury, he slammed his fist onto the nearby desk.
The dented desk offered him only a slight release from the rage boiling inside.
‘Sitting back onto the sofa, he grabbed a cigarette from the table and lit it.
Chris Gale and Shane Quinn, who were on the side, exchanged glances. Finally, Shane spoke up carefully.
“Mr. Stevens, please don’t be upset. Maybe Ms. James is just busy with something right now.”
Chris quickly nodded in agreement.
“That’s right, Mr. Stevens. She’s probably just angry for the moment. Once she calms down, she’ll come back.”
Jake snorted. He pressed his cigarette into the desk to extinguish it. His voice was filled with disdain.
“I couldn’t care less if she comes back or not. In fact, I hope she never does. That would make me happy!”
With that, Jake grabbed his car keys and headed straight back to the house he and Lily had shared.
Once inside, surrounded by all the little things Lily had decorated with, he lost his composure. He smashed everything in sight-
When he reached the final vase, Jake did not spare it. He threw it straight to the ground.
“Do you really think you can get away from me, Lily? Let me tell you something, only I get to dump you, not the other way around! Just you wait. I’ll make sure you end up begging me on your knees!”
Meanwhile, I was sitting at my desk and carefully drafting the contract I needed next.

The office door opened. Zane walked in with a cup of coffee.
“Lily, do you have time to grab lunch with me this afternoon?”

I glanced at him–broad shoulders, narrow waist, lean in clothes, but clearly muscular underneath. My gaze could not help but
focus on him.
He did not shy away, either. He walked up behind me and pointed out a mistake I had made in the document.
As I stared at his long, well–defined fingers, I could not help but feel a little flustered.
His voice was cool but carried a mature edge.
At home, my parents never allowed me to get involved in business.
To them, all of it naturally belonged to my brother.
As for me? I was just supposed to be the perfect James family daughter and be nothing more than a polished product.
After I got together with Jake, I once casually brought up that I wanted to start my own company and be my own boss.
His expression immediately darkened. In a displeased voice, he said, “Lily, you’ll never need to worry about money with me.
There’s no need for you to waste your energy starting a business.”
They dismissed everything I wanted and denied everything who I was. After all, in their eyes, I only needed to be the perfect James family daughter and the future Mrs. Stevens.
However, now, in this office of just a few dozen square feet, Zane was standing by my side and patiently guiding me through the
issues in my contract.
Maybe it was the rush of old emotions. I looked at him and asked, “Zane, do you think I’m making too much of a fuss by starting a
company?”
Zane just looked at me with cycs filled with tenderness. He pulled me up, sat down in my chair, and then wrapped me in his arms.
“Of course not.
“You are your own person. You’ve never been anyone’s accessory.
“And starting a company isn’t easy. The fact that you’ve made the decision to do it is already something to be proud of.
“I’m proud of you, Lily.”
A warm feeling rose in my chest. Just as I was about to say something, Zane’s hand slipped under my shirt.
“I’ll do everything I can to help you reach the top.
“But before that, can I collect a little interest?”
I panicked a little and tried to stop his hand, but when I met his pleading eyes, I could only say in defeat, “We’re in the office.”

“Remember to keep your voice down later then.”
“You…”
Before I could say another word, he kissed me. Soon enough, I found myself completely swept away by him.
