Ethan needed to know the precise state of Tessa’s eyes.
At the hospital, Rosalie helped Tessa complete the required tests. Once finished, they waited for the results in silence. Rosalie turned to Tessa and said, “Stay here for a minute. I’ll grab you some water.”
“Okay,” Tessa answered, nodding.
Since Tessa couldn’t see, Rosalie worried about her safety and got a white cane from the hospital. Gripping the cane, Tessa remained quietly seated on the hallway bench.
Sunlight spilled over her, and though her gaze was unfocused, her eyes remained bright and beautiful.
Suddenly, a child sprinted past, catching his foot on her cane. He stumbled, causing the cane to clatter to the floor. He then quickly regained his balance and rushed off without saying a single word.
Tessa was startled. She didn’t know what had happened, only that her cane had been knocked away. Clutching the chair for support, she crouched and swept her hand across the floor, searching.
The cane lay nearby, but she couldn’t see it. Her fingers brushed empty air, never quite finding it. It was a heartbreaking scene to
watch.
Unable to stand by any longer, Ethan stepped forward. He picked up the cane and gently placed it back in her hand.
Tessa recognized the familiar shape against her palm and smiled. “Thank you.”
Ethan paused. Before he could speak, a sharp voice cut through the air. “Ethan, what are you doing?”
Rosalie had returned, clutching the water, her face tight with anger. She shoved him back and snapped, “You’ve already hurt. Tessa enough! Why can’t you just leave her alone? What more do you want?”
“Ethan?” Tessa went rigid, only now realizing it had been him. But why was he even here?
Ethan’s expression hardened. “I meant no harm. I only wanted to check on her condition,” he said quietly.
Rosalie’s tone dripped with sarcasm as she retorted, “You expect me to believe that? You never gave a damn about Tessa before.
This sudden show of concern is pathetic!
“If you actually cared, you wouldn’t have stolen the corneas she’d been desperately waiting for! Her eyes couldn’t wait any longer. But you handed them to your side piece without a second thought.
“I’ll never forgive myself for not stopping you! You showed Tessa no mercy when she could still see. Don’t you dare insult her
with your pity now. Get lost!”
This was the first time Ethan had been confronted so bluntly. Anger darkened his expression, but the sight of Tessa’s silent figure nearby tempered some of his rage.

“Come back with me. I’ll arrange treatment for your eyes. I’ll find you another cornea donor,” he said, his tone somber.
Rosalie scoffed. “Is this supposed to be an apology? Tess doesn’t need your pity. All she wants is your signature on the divorce
agreement so you can finally leave her alone!”
Ethan’s irritation flared. “My relationship with Tessa is none of your business.”
Tessa said calmly, “I agree with her. Mr. Ziegler, please sign the divorce agreement as soon as possible. If you have any decency
left, show some mercy to a blind woman. Thank you.”
Then, she took Rosalie’s hand. “Let’s go, Rosie.”
Rosalie shot Ethan a final glare before they walked away.
Ethan drew a sharp breath and drove his fist into the wall, his frustration boiling over.
