Chapter 24
Tessa opened her eyes to see a blurry figure she couldn’t quite make out. She started to say, “You…”
“Talk about bad luck. Of all people, I had to run into you here!” That icy voice left no doubt within her. She knew that it belonged.
to Derek
Memories of every insult he’d ever thrown at her sent a chill through her. With her vision still blurry, her first impulse was to
bolt.
But Derek clamped a firm hand on her shoulder and sneered. “Don’t stop drinking because of me. Why run? It’s not like I’ll hurt
you. What are you afraid of?”
His hand clamped down on Tessa’s shoulder with brutal force. The pain was sharp enough to make her wince, her slender frame on the verge of buckling.
“Compared to your father–that monster who got countless people killed–I’m practically a saint. Wouldn’t you agree?”
The words sent a surge of anger through her. She snatched the half–full glass from the table and hurled the remaining liquor at Derek.
However, he didn’t flinch as the alcohol hit him square in the face. Everyone froze at the sight..
Derek opened his eyes and wiped his face. His expression turned dangerously cold. “You just signed your own death warrant!”
He grabbed a handful of Tessa’s hair, his voice a low, venomous growl. “Am I wrong? How many people did your father kill? And you’re no better. If you hadn’t clung to Ethan and forced him to marry you, you’d be dead. All your enemies would’ve torn you apart. You’re only alive because of him!”
Tessa wrenched herself free, her scalp burning.
“My dad was innocent! I’ll find the evidence and prove it!” she snarled, her teeth clenched.
Derek’s fury erupted. “Innocent? You and your father are both guilty!”
He shoved Tessa hard, sending her crashing to the floor. Her head struck the bar’s edge, and her vision blacked out. Her ears were filled with nothing but a mess of sound.
Panic gripped her as she fumbled blindly for the bar, trying to push herself up, but she couldn’t manage it. Voices of hatred closed In around her.
“The Langfords should be buried with the people who died from their drugs! Do you even deserve to be alive?”
“Mr. Gallagher, stop. Whether you like it or not, she’s Mr. Ziegler’s wife.”
“Mr. Ziegler never wanted her. He loves Charlotte! If she hadn’t tricked him, she’d never be his wife. Today, I’ll make sure she regrets it!”

Then, liquid splashed over Tessa’s head. She gasped as the sharp sting of alcohol flooded her senses. The liquor dripped down her hair and face and into her clothes, soaking her completely.
Derek hurled the glass to the floor, where it shattered with a sharp crack. He snarled, “This is what you get! I might have left you alone if you’d just kept your mouth shut. But no, you had to fight back. And you still won’t admit that you were wrong!”
He yanked Tessa up from the ground,
“What are you doing? Let me go! Let go!” she screamed, thrashing wildly.
Her hands clawed at him, nalls raking across Derek’s face. He shouted in pain, releasing her to clutch his injured eye.
“Mr. Gallagher!” Several voices gasped as people rushed forward. “Mr. Gallagher, are you okay?”
Blood oozed from a gash on Derek’s eyelid.
Shaking with rage, he spat, “Grab her!”
