Chapter 15
“Tess, I’m here! I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault for not getting here sooner to stop that scumbag,” Rosalie said.
“Rosie? Is that you?” Tessa’s eyes didn’t focus. Her hand reached into the air, searching blindly.
Rosalie felt like she’d been punched in the chest. She hurriedly grabbed Tessa’s hand and asked, “What’s wrong with your eyes? What happened?”
Tessa relaxed when she realized that it was Rosalie. She tried to ease the latter’s worries. “Don’t worry. It’s just temporary blindness. It’ll pass in a couple of days.”
“What?” Rosalie grew panicked. “This never happened before!”
Tessa’s previous blindness spells had only lasted briefly and never this long..
Rosalie picked up Tessa’s chart and scanned her medications and IV fluids. Her expression soured. There was no doubt about it- Tessa’s condition worsened because of the emotional trauma.
“Ethan, that motherfucker!” Rosalie ground out, her eyes rimmed red with tears,
Tessa’s hand searched again in the air. “Rosie…”
Rosalie gripped it tightly, unable to find the words. Her heart felt unbearably heavy.
“I’m okay,” Tessa said quietly. “This just made me more determined to divorce him.”
“I’m going to kill him!” Rosalie spat. “How could he do this to you?”
Tessa’s expression dimmed, and she said nothing. When there was no love, cruelty came easy. She figured that she was probably Insignificant to Ethan.
Meanwhile, Ethan hurried down the stairs, scowling. He barked orders into the phone, telling his bodyguards to locate Tessa. He didn’t know why, but something inside him felt deeply unsettled.
Suddenly, he spotted a familiar figure and stopped, his eyes narrowing sharply at that person.
The other lifted his head. He was handsome and gentle–looking and was holding a bag of food. It was Zachary,
Zachary acted like he hadn’t seen Ethan and walked right past him without even giving him a glance.
Ethan’s voice turned cold as he asked, “What are you doing here?”
Zachary stopped in his tracks. “This is a hospital. Are you the only one allowed to be here?”
“What’s your relationship with Tessa?” Ethan turned around, his eyes full of hostility.
Zachary met his gaze calmly. “That’s my business. I don’t believe I owe you an explanation.”

“Don’t let me find out that you’re getting close to her on purpose.” Ethan warned, “Tessa is my wife. If you dare try anything with her, don’t blame me for what happens next.”
With that, he stormed off.
Zachary watched him walk away, still unfazed. When he returned to the ward, he saw a woman sitting beside Tessa’s bed.
Rosalie didn’t recognize Zachary and instinctively asked, “Are you in the wrong ward?”
“No.” Zachary closed the door behind him and stepped inside. “I’m Tessa’s friend.”
Rosalie looked him up and down. She was surprised that Tessa had made friends with someone as striking and refined as Zachary.. She turned to Tessa and asked, “Tess, is he your friend?”
Tessa nodded and said, “Let me introduce you. This is my friend, Zachary Ziegler. Zac, this is my best friend, Rosalie Gray. She is also the doctor in charge of my case.”
“Ms. Gray, nice to meet you.” Zachary extended a hand. “Thank you for looking after Tessa.”
Rosalie sensed something odd about his words, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. Nevertheless, she reached out and shook his hand politely.
“Of course. It’s the least I can
do.”
