Chapter 5
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, Ben pushed through the crowd to the front of the stage and raised his hand to slap me.
After I dodged it, his face was filled with angry disappointment.
“Linda, didn’t I tell you that even though you’re part of the Turner family, if you want to start a business, you can’t use the Turner name for your own profit?
“Everyone works hard checking venues and preparing bids. You just mention you’re a Turner and take the project. Do you think
that’s fair to other companies?”
I glanced at Anne, who sat pale–faced in her seat, and said mockingly to Ben, “Are you speaking up for everyone, or just for
Anne?”
Ben’s face became unnatural for a moment, but he quickly regained his righteousness.
“Don’t twist my words. Anne worked day and night for this project. What right do you have to compare yourself to her?”
I laughed coldly. “How do you know I didn’t do the same?”
“I’m your brother. Don’t I know you well enough?”
He sneered and said, “As the rich and pampered daughter of the Turner family, when you were at home, you never woke up
before ten in the morning. With your lazy nature, how could you possibly create a decent proposal?”
Many people’s expressions changed immediately. Those surrounding me subtly stepped back, and hushed voices spread among
them.
“Is that true?”
“That’s her own brother–he wouldn’t deliberately lie, would he?”
