Chapter 6
Several members of the project review committee from three years ago walked in.
They were all from Peterson Group.
Travis asked, “Do you recognize them?”
Nelson’s face changed slightly, but he didn’t dare deny it.
Travis smiled with satisfaction. “So can you tell me who actually cheated and used connections back then?”
Nelson remained silent. I cut in, “Mr. Peterson, weren’t you the first to claim I abused my power? Why are you quiet now?”
He didn’t dare confront Travis, but he had no kindness for me.
“Ben is your brother. Did you really need to get an outsider to intimidate us?
“Besides, didn’t I just wrongly accuse you once? Why hold a grudge for so long?
“Don’t forget, I’m your fiancé.”
Travis’s gaze drifted over, and I declared firmly, “Absolutely not. He’s my ex–fiancé. Our engagement was broken three years
ago.
“It’s fine if you won’t talk–someone else will.”
I casually pointed to one of the former review committee members and asked him to tell exactly what happened three years ago.
Suddenly, everyone’s eyes toward Nelson and Ben changed.
Worse than using connections is using them and then blaming someone else–especially someone close to you. That’s no
different from backstabbing.
Facing Nelson’s and Ben’s hateful stares, I curved my lips into a slight smile.
They wouldn’t be able to work in this industry in Brookshire anymore, at least. Their hatred was understandable.
But… this wasn’t over yet.
Looking at the two of them, miserable as if at a funeral, I kindly hinted, “Haven’t you wondered why these people are cooperating
with me?”
Travis’s light, cheerful voice rang out, “Because Peterson Group has been acquired by me and given to my wife!”
He looked at me with a smile, as if seeking praise.
I smiled and lowered my head slightly.
