Chapter 22
As the roar of the car’s engine faded into the distance, the resentment in Eileen’s eyes deepened.
She hadn’t acted on impulse. Ever since returning from Housleton and learning that she had botched the bidding and angered the daughter of Housleton’s richest family, the Wises had decisively abandoned her.
Eileen had hoped to solidify her position with the Wises through her marriage to Cole, but the moment she mentioned it, her parents slapped her across the face.
“How dare you even bring that up! The minute Cole came back, he came to us to cancel the engagement. You can’t even hold on to a man. Tell me, what use are you?”
It was only then that Eileen realized she had been abandoned by everyone.
But why should she just take it?
She felt like because of Jaycie, she was abandoned by the Wises and rejected by Cole. Why did Jaycie still get to look down on her from her high perch?
She directed all her anger at Jaycie, dragging Wayne and Cole into her plan as she made one last desperate attempt to slander her.
They all thought Jaycie had erased any trace of her past with Cole. They even considered that even if she managed to produce
proof of their five–year relationship, Eileen could easily forge something even older.
That was until Jaycie directly released two pieces of surveillance footage along with old chat records from when Eileen had
provoked her.
One video was from a month ago, when Cole’s friends had spoken in Frutunian right in front of Jaycie. Though the voices were a bit distorted due to it being a surveillance recording, the meaning of their conversation came across clearly: Cole had secretly
gotten engaged to someone else while keeping Jaycie around as his side chick under the guise of love.
The second video was of the confrontation between Eileen and Jaycie outside the bathroom. It was easy to hear Jaycie saying she
had been with Cole for five years first, insinuating that Eileen was the third wheel. Despite being furious, Eileen couldn’t argue.
If Jaycie had truly been the one to meddle, Eileen’s fiery temper would’ve led her to refute it right then and there.
And then there were those later texts from Eileen, boldly boasting in front of Cole’s legitimate girlfriend–those didn’t sound like
the words of someone who had been cheated
