The next morning, Cole woke up with a splitting headache from his hangover. He tried to lift his hand to press at his temples but
suddenly realized that there seemed to be someone lying in his arms.
He looked down, only to see the top of a perfectly styled head of curly hair.
Before his mind could fully catch up, the name slipped from his lips. “Jaycie?”
But the moment the word left his mouth, he realized something wasn’t right. Jaycie was still in Housleton–she hadn’t come back. Besides, just a few days ago, she had decisively broken up with him. How could she possibly be here, in his bed, now? More
than that, Jaycie had never curled her hair like this.
A sense of unease gripped him. He pushed the person away with a sudden force, and Eileen, still deep in her sleep, was flung off
the bed and hit the floor with a jarring crash that instantly roused her from her slumber.
As she lifted her head, her eyes met Cole’s dark, stormy expression.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice cold and devoid of any emotion, sending a pang of frustration through her. Her
lips trembled, and tears welled up in her eyes, making her appear pitiful and vulnerable.
If anyone else had seen her like this, they might have softened. Perhaps Cole, before he had been dumped by Jaycie, wouldn’t have
treated her this harshly either.
But the Cole in front of her was aware how she had provoked Jaycie into breaking up with him.
Eileen cried for a moment, but when she saw that Cole remained unmoved, his face only growing darker, she quickly swallowed
her tears and explained, “Last night, you were drunk, and you wouldn’t let me take you to your villa, so I had no choice but to
bring you here.”
At those words, Cole finally realized that in his anger, he hadn’t noticed the overly girly, pink–decorated room around him. This
wasn’t his place.
His expression softened a little, but the wariness in his eyes didn’t disappear. “Then why were we sleeping together?” he asked,
his voice sharp with suspicion.
Before Eileen could respond, her cheeks flushed a deep red.
“I was planning on settling you down and then going to the guest room, but you wouldn’t let go of me, and then we…”
