So, it wasn’t surprising when, after weighing his options, she became the one to be cast aside. Whether it was him deciding to
quietly keep her as a mistress or his instinct to save Eileen first during the car accident, his priority had long shifted.
Even now, hearing his voice crack, hearing his sadness, Jaycie couldn’t feel the slightest stir in her heart.
“Cole, it’s a breakup, not a divorce. It doesn’t require both parties to agree. And why would you say I abandoned you? Didn’t you give up on our relationship first? Now you’re accusing me of abandoning you? And at this point, I think you should understand:
We’re done. Please, don’t contact me again.”
Each word she spoke seemed to strike Cole deeper. He parted his lips, his eyes full of sorrow.
“Jaycie…”
He barely whispered her name before the sound of the call disconnecting filled his ear, followed by the beep of the phone. He
froze, stunned. When he tried to call her back, he realized the number was no longer reachable.

Had she blocked him?
He tried reaching out through other means, but each message indicated that it had failed to send.

Defeated, Cole collapsed onto the couch, his eyes falling back to the stack of documents in front of him. He stared at the pile, feeling the weight of both anger and grief rising in his chest. Without thinking, he swept the papers off the table in a violent
motion.
Pages fluttered in the air, their rustling filling the room before they scattered across the desk, the couch, and the floor.
Eileen. It was all Eileen’s fault. If she hadn’t brought all this to Jaycie’s attention, maybe she wouldn’t have left so decisively!
The last page landed in front of him, and it contained Eileen’s final message to Jaycie.
[Cole might love you, but… he just kissed me. How long do you think it’ll be before we take the next step?]
His gaze darkened, and he stared at the words for a long time. Then, unexpectedly, he sneered, and his eyes, usually calm and cold, flashed with a malicious gleam.
“Eileen,” he murmured. “I’ve told you before. The only person I’ll ever love is Jaycie. Who gave you the nerve to mess with her? If
you’re so desperate to get married, how about I give you a little
gift?”
