Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of her and she was surprised to see that it was her father
“Ivory,” Lionel called out, but something about him was different. “How have you been child?”
Ivory frowned at this. “What are you doing here??
Her question was met by a sheepish smile and Lionel took a step forward. “We wanted to see how you were.” He looked around and smiled. “But it seems to me like you’re well. But Ivy, my child, why didn’t you tell your mother and I that you’re now the CEO of such a big company The question, no, more importantly, the way he had addressed her, caught Ivory off guard. Before she could control herself, she had snorted. “Your child?” The sarcasm was clear in her voice, but without giving Lionel room to respond, she carries on. “And why do I have to tell the lot of you anything? I’ve never considered you guys family since a long while ago,”
She paused and frowned, in a mocking manner. “Don’t tell me after everything you’ve done to me, you still have the audacity to consider yourself my family? What a joke.”
Lionel was stunned and at once, he was angry. This child was behaving as if she was better than him, simply because she was the CEO of Elixiron.
But she had a lot of gals to be this proud, considering that Evangeline had told them how she got this position.
And he would have put her in her place, if not for the fact that he needed to benefit some from her new position.
Investor, investments and even connections to Arnett; he wanted all that, and he was going to get it, after all, he was her father.
He deserved at least that much.
So with that thought in mind, he forced a fatherly looking smile on his lips.
“Come on Ivory, don’t be like that. Families have squabbles all the time and children argue with their parents. Doesn’t mean you should now cut ties with us-”
“What do you want?” Ivory rudely interrupted. “I don’t have forever to stand around and listen to you talk rubbish.”
Lionel felt a vein pop in his head, but kept it together and even followed her towards the parking lot when she began walking away.
“My birthday is coming up in a few days and we’re throwing a party. I want you to join us.”
Ivory stopped walking and looked at her father like he had just sweetly invited her to her
demise.
Which in her opinion he just had. Because what type of dumb fuck would she be, to attend a birthday party for a man who had tried to send her to another man’s bed as a sacrifice, then nearly whipped her when she managed to preserve her dignity.
The type of stupid fuck he thought she was, apparently.
“Get out of my face,” she hissed, turning and walking away. “Before I do something I won’t regret.”
Lionel was quickly reaching his limit, but with the success of his company in mind, he tried his luck one last time.
“Ivory, come on Child, don’t be like that-”
“Have you gone deaf?” She snapped. “I was respecting you because I once considered you my father, but it seems that’s been my mistake and your age has been you an absolute senile. Now get the fuck out of my face before I make you regret stepping feet in this premises.”
Lionel was stunned by the cold and rude way she had spoken to him, but then he quickly became enraged and was about to teach her a brief lesson when suddenly a familiar voice spoke up.
“Is there a problem here?”
Turning, he was surprised to see Lucien Varga in the flesh.
“Mr. Varga,” he eyes lit up in admiration. “I’ve heard so much about you. It’s such a pleasure meeting you in person.”
Lucien wasn’t interested in his words of flattery. He walked over and made sure Ivory was unharmed before turning his attention to Lionel again.
“And you are?”
“Me?” Lionel pointed his finger at himself, his brows rising. “I’m the father of Ivory, she’s my child.”
“Ah,” A smile spread across Lucien’s lip. A fake one. “Mr. Remington, what brings you here?”
“I came to invite Ivory for my upcoming birthday, but it seems she busy.” He paused for a second, allowing the hint in his words sink in, before proceeding to ask. “You are also invited, Mr. Varga. It would be an honor for you to attend.”
“I’m invited?” Lucien asked while Ivory rolled her eyes at Lionel’s shameless behavior, which had already been expected.
What she didn’t expect was Lucien’s next words.
“That’s an honor. I’ll be sure to attend.”
Her eyes widened slightly and she looked at Lucien.
“That’s great. If you can, please bring my daughter along.” Lionel laughed in delight. “I’ll take my leave now. It was nice meeting you.”
And just like that, he was gone, feeling like he had accomplished something big, while Ivory glared at Lucien.
“You’re going to attend his party? Why?”
It was clear in her voice that she had taken offense and Lucien couldn’t help but laugh, finding her reaction cute.
“Relax, V,” He began, stepping closer and petting her head before once again allowing his hand to rest on the nape of her neck.
And with a scheming smile on his lip, he whispered. “I have a little birthday present for him.”
