Chapter 46
The question remained on Gadreel’s mind, even as he walked back to the room with the fruit
basket.
All these years, all the years during their marriage, Ivory had done nothing but studied on his behalf.
Although he was now the top business man in the country, Gadreel had once studied medicine and he knew through first hand experience that it wasn’t an easy journey.
So for someone like Ivory, who had dropped out of school with no degree to do something like that, while caring for his physical health, it was… admirable?
That thought didn’t seat well with the rest of the thoughts he had about Ivory. After all, he was convinced after what he had seen in the bathroom back at the auction that she wasn’t the angel his grandmother had made her out to be.
Gosh, the more he thought about it, the more it seemed to give him a headache.
All at once, Gadreel decided to discard the thought, pushing them to the back of his mind as he reached his grandmother’s ward.
But just as he was about to open the door, a hand grabbed his. Gadreel turned at once and was surprised to see Evangeline.
His expression flattered, showing surprise. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to see Grandma,” She raised the fruit basket in her hand up, displaying it to him. “I also bought some fruits, hoping to ease her discomfort.”
“I told you to go home, Evangeline, so why are you here? You know what, just leave, now’s not a good time for you to be here.” He said.
Evangeline quickly took offense to his words. “But it’s a good time for Ivory to be here? Why can she be here and not me? I’m the one who’s going to be your wife in the future, so why
can’t I be here?” She asked, clearly fuming.
Gadreel sighed and clammed his eyes shut. He was silent for a few seconds as he tried to think of a way to handle the situation without disturbing his grandmother and hurting Evangeline’s feelings.
Eventually, he came up with one, but just before he could speak, the door to the ward opened and he and Evangeline watched as Ivory stepped out.
“I don’t think you both are aware of the fact that this is a hospital,” Her eyes danced between them, lingering on Gadreel a few seconds longer as she added. “And Grandmother requires peace and quiet to get her rest.”
“This doesn’t concern you,” Evangeline snapped at her, glaring daggers.
“I’m happy you’ve realized that. Now, kindly carry your concerns somewhere else. The best option would be outside where no one can be disturbed by your senseless chattering,”
“Senseless chattering?!” Evangeline nearly blew a fuse and her glare intensified. She pointed her finger and accused. “This is all your fault, I know what you’re doing. So don’t act like a saint.”
Ivory was unbothered and crossed her hand across her chest. “And what am I doing?”
“This is your way of trying to get Gadreel back. You’re shamelessly using Grandma as a means to get closer to him so that you can snatch him from me even when you’re no longer his wife. And here I was, thinking you were a good person. Turns out, you’re worse than a bitch who
tries to steal others man.”
Ivory frowned, offended at the stereotyping. “Please don’t mistake yourself for me.‘”
“What?”
“Well you see, if there’s anyone who’s found of stealing other people’s things, that’s got to be you. After all, you did that an awful lot when we were younger,” She smiled a bit. “Even now, you’re still stealing my leftover trash.”
She clicked her tongue, looking her over with distaste. “How pathetic.”
Her words, although they didn’t have a certain target, Gadreel could feel it being directed at
him.
He was the leftover trash in the case.
It was like a blow to his pride, but for the sake of his grandmother, Gadreel kept himself in check, choosing not to get into an altercation with his grandmother’s obvious favorite child.
Evangeline however, didn’t take well to her words and at once, she snapped, her hand rising in
the air.
“How dare you! I’ll show you! How-”
“Don’t you
dare!”
The sudden appearance of another voice, followed by the sound of the door opening, stopped Evangeline and her attack.
All heads turned to see Gabriella standing by the door, using her IV pole for support.
“Grandmother,” Ivory was quick to rush to her side. “What are you doing? You should be resting.”
“With all that noise,” Gabriella shook her head and Gadreel came to her side,
“Grandmother, please come, let me help you back into bed.”
He reached for her hand, but Gabriella stopped him, fixing her attention on Evangeline who had gone quiet.
“You,” she pointed her finger at the blonde. “You seem to have a lot to say to me, so why don’t we have a chat,” When Gadreel tried to speak up, she added. “Privately.”
Ivory’s brows went up in a fashion of pleasant surprise. Well, this is new, but, it really didn’t concern her and she wanted to keep it that way.
“Grandmother.” Gadreel called out, but Gabriella ignored him and kept her attention on Evangeline who seemed hesitant to enter the ward.
“Well?”
Evangeline hesitated for a few more seconds and Gabriella scoffed.
“And here you were making noise about being my grandson’s future wife. The next lady of the Odegaar house would have more backbone!”
Although hesitant, Evangeline nodded her head. If this was the way she was going to get Gabriella to approve of she and Gadreel’s relationship and be in a better position than Ivory,
then so be it.
‘Alright, Grandmother, please come, let’s go inside.”
Gabriella turned around and headed back into the room after hearing this and Evangeline
followed along.
“Don’t come in until I say so.” Gabriella told her grandson just as the door closed shut, leaving Ivory and Gadreel alone.
The silence between them only lasted a few seconds as Ivory cleared her throat.
“She seems to have gotten better, but don’t push her too much.” She said. “Over the next few days she needs to rest intensely, so please, listen clearly to what I’m about to tell you.”
She began, taking a pen and a paper out.
“If she’s in a good mood, get her to eat a meal and drink warm water, but if her mood isn’t right, get her a cup of honey tea. As for medicine, make sure she takes her medication and don’t forget the iron pills. Don’t let her overexert herself and if you have a doctor’s appointment, take her along. She should have enough energy for that, so it won’t be a problem.”
She finished scribbling down the instructions and handed them over to Gadreel, but he didn’t take it.
Rather, he stared at her with an unreadable expression, narrowing his blue eyes dangerously

“What is it?” Ivory couldn’t help but ask, but she certainly did not expect his next words. “Did you ever love me?”
