Chapter 45
Gadreel eyes grew wide seconds after hearing this and his facial expression contorted in worry.
“What do you mean Grandma has been rushed to the hospital?” He repeated.
Ivory, currently in the process of taking the contact info, paused midway and turned to face Gadreel after hearing what he had said.
“What’s wrong with Grandma?” She couldn’t help but ask, feeling the soft side she has for the elderly woman being tugged on at the thought of something wrong happening.
Gadreel didn’t answer, but Durian heard her voice and asked. “Is that the Madam? Can she come along? Your grandmother has missed her dearly and I’m sure her presence would aid a lot in her recovery.”
Gadreel frowned at the thought. He wanted to reject the suggestion, but recalled how his grandmother had recovered quickly the last time Ivory had come over.
If it was for his grandmother, he was willing to bend a bit.
“Sure. Send me the location and we’ll be there as soon as possible.” He said and hung up, facing Ivory with reluctance. “Grandma fell ill and is being rushed to the hospital. Durian advised that you come along.”
Ivory nodded her head without hesitation. “Alright, let’s go.” She turned to Lucien. “Handle things here, would you?”
Lucien although a bit hesitant, nodded. But just as Ivory and Gadreel were about to leave, Evangeline spoke up.
“I want to come along, Reel.”
Gadreel did not waste a second to turn down her suggestion after recalling his grandmother’s reaction. “No, you go home, Eva. I’ll have the driver take you back.”
Without waiting for her response, Gadreel began to walk away and Ivory, after bidding Lucien farewell, followed along.
Evangeline gritted her teeth as she watched them leave.
Ivory had managed to get one on her today, but that doesn’t mean she was just going to seat
back!
Too engrossed in her own thoughts, Evangeline did not notice the way Lucien glanced at her, then at Ivory’s retreating figure.
His eyes narrowed and he thought; Well, what was he to make of this.
Ivory and Gadreel arrived at the hospital shortly after. Walking into Gabriella, they found the doctor checking on her just as she woke up.
“Grandmother,” Ivory rushed to her side while Gedreel confronted the doctor.
“How is she?”
“High blood pressure along with some other things. But a few days of rest with a good mind should help it all. Excuse me now.”
The doctor left and Gadreel turned his attention to Ivory. “How are you doing, grandmother?”
Gabriella opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was Ivory. At once, a smile appeared on her lips.
“My child,”
Her voice was so weak that it made Ivory frown. She could tell Gabriella was truly sick this time around.
“Grandma, how did you become like this?”
“The Madam has been a bad state of mind ever since hearing about your divorce,” Durian explained sadly and Gadreel and Ivory both exchanged looks.
However, before either of them could say anything, Gabriella spoke. “Gadreel, I want some fruits. Could you go get some for me?”
Gadreel, although confused and a bit, nodded. “Sure, I’ll be right back.”
He was gone after that and Durian followed along. All alone, Gabriella turned her attention to
Ivory.
“How are you
child?”
“I’m fine Grandmother. Please conserve your strength and rest. We can talk later.”
“No,” she shook her head. “I want us to have this conversation now. Gadreel I know He’s not an easygoing person, at times he can be difficult, but…”
She held onto Ivory’s hand. “That doesn’t mean he’s a bad person. That child has the softest heart. He just doesn’t know how to express his emotions ever since the passing of his parents. Please Ivory, my daughter, don’t hate him for what he’s done.”
“I’m not asking for you to get back together with him, but please, don’t be an enemy to him.”
Ivory so wanted to reject this request. But she couldn’t, especially not when the woman looked like she was begging for her life.
“Okay Grandma,” she said with a forced smile and Gabriella’s eyes brightened. “Thank you, Ivory.”
Chapter 45
After that, she closed her eyes and Ivory sat in silence, thinking and waiting for Gadreel to
return.
Gadreel picked out fruits for his grandmother’s fruit basket from the indoor supermarket, however, his mind wasn’t fixed on the task at hand.
Once again, he found himself thinking about Ivory, more specifically, her medical knowledge, she seemed to know an awful lot for someone who was just a stay at home wife.
“Is everything okay, Sir?” Durian, taking notice of his Master’s preoccupation, asked.
Gadreel did not hesitate to ask. “During the time Ivory took care of me, did she…what did she do during her spare time.”
“Spare time? I don’t think the Madam had any thing like that. She was always either taking. care of you or reading up on your condition.”
“Reading up?”
“Yes, the Madam studied a lot of medical books to help you recover from your comatose state. That was all she ever did during her…spare time.
So was that why she knew so much about medicine? Gadreel mused, but at the same time, he couldn’t help but frown.
Ivory had sacrificed her ‘spare time‘ to read medical books, all for his sake and even during the other times, she was taking care of him. And she had done all this for five years.
It was the first time, Gadreel couldn’t help but be curious. What else had Ivory sacrificed for him?
