Chapter 44
The rules were set by Arnett herself, so, please if you have an issue with it, you’re welcome to keep quiet, because your opinion won’t change a thing”
Lucien’s words had silenced the room, but in a different way and so had his presence.
It didn’t take people long to recognize who he was. A great doctor by name and a miracle worker in the Operation Room and on top that, rumors has been going round that he was the representative of Arnett.
The very person who was said to have Created the Essence Of Oblivion.
Immediately, all their reasoning changed and they began looking at the matter differently.
“So it was really her who evoked the rule, not the new CEO.” One whispered.
“That makes sense. Arnett must have thought this through.” Another added.
Finally one of the bidders said something that sparked the interest and competitive spirit off
all.
“If the Essence of Oblivion was made by Arnett, have to get it, that way, I’d have a chance to get closer to her!”
Immediately, she raised her paddle and called. “Sixty million!”
Immediately after, someone else called a higher bid, followed by another. The price kept going higher, offers being proposed by influential figures.
Ivory was silent for a little while. Although she was thankful that Lucien had resolved the situation, she had now been left in a pickle like situation.
All these people clearly wanted the Essence of Oblivion because they wanted to get closer to Arnett‘, which ironically, was her. But they didn’t know this and she had no problem with that.
Where her problemn laid, was the fact the people placing those bids, were all influential people and potential investors of her company.
If she were to pick one over the other…
She frowned slightly at the thought, but Lucien placed a hand on her shoulder and gave an encouraging nod.
It was clear he had also caught on the situation and was trying to reassure her.
“Don’t worry,” He mouthed. “You can handle this.”
Ivory smiled with gratitude. The little interaction did not fail to catch Gadreel’s attention and he recalled what he had seen in the bathroom.
Although he visibly glared at the two, Ivory was too busy thinking of a solution to notice. Shortly after, the corners of her lips pulled up ever so slightly as an idea came to mind.
Just as another was about to bid one of their outrageous price, she raised her hand, silencing all.
“All your participation is highly valued and appreciated, however, a winner has not been chosen and will not be done so by me,”
Murmurs washed over the crowd and Ivory added
“Arnett would be the one who decides the winner”
The room erupted in delighted whispers, whereas Gadreel was silent with his eyes narrowed on Ivory, clearly thinking something.
“So please,” she gestured for Mr. Hutchinson to bring a small basket. “Write down your names and contact info and leave it in the basket. If you win, you’ll be contacted by Arnett Herself.”
Everyone immediately rushed to do as they were told. As they all dropped their contact info in the basket beside Ivory, she frowned the moment she saw Evangeline..
God, why was she here? Did she have no shame?
“Sister,” Evangeline smiled. “You didn’t tell me you knew Arnett. Although it seems like we’re not on good terms, I’m your junior sister.” She said, but Ivory remained silent.
Evangeline felt her anger rise a bit. Who was Ivory to behave so smugly. If not for the fact that she needed the Essence of Oblivion, she won’t even be here.
Calming her anger, she expanded her smile. “Since we’re family, would you put in a good word for this junior sister.”
Ivory’s expression remained neutral. “If you’re done talking nonsense, drop your contact info and get out. Others are waiting behind.”
Her words angered Evangeline, but just as she was about to lose her cool, Gadreel showed up and she quickly feigned hurt.
“Sister, why are you being so mean? You know how much I need this for my heart, don’t you want me to recover?” She placed her hand on her chest and stumbled back a bit.
?Shen
Gadreel was quick to catch her. “Eva, are you alright?” She nodded weakly and he turned his attention to Ivory. “Why are you being like this? Bullying someone who’s not even well, have you fallen that low? You really should be ashamed of your actions today!”
“I don’t think there’s anything for her to be ashamed of,” Lucien spoke up before Ivory even think of retorting. “If anything, I’d say she has done the right thing and the one in the
could
wrong is your shameless lover who tried to bride her way to victory using the family card.”
He looked at Evangeline and shook his head. “Such a pretty face, but I expected better. Maybe it’s the brain that’s sick.”
“Watch your tongue!” Gadreel snapped immediately, fixing him with a glare. “You have no right to stick your mouth in here,” he paused and chuckled. “Or do you?”
He looked back at Ivory and with a suggestive leer, asked. “He’s your little boyfriend, or is it fuck buddy, right?”
Gasped filled the room and Ivory now glared at Gadreel.
“Watch your mouth,” She advised. “And keep your nose out of my damn business, because last I checked, we’re divorced.”
The gasps in the room grew up on hearing her words and head spun, surprise clear in their
eyes.
Ivory Remington was the woman Gadreel was once married to!
The tension in the room was high, but before anyone could say a thing, Gadreel’s phone began
to ring.
When he pulled it out, the expression on his face relaxed a bit when he saw it was his grandmother’s number.
“Grandma?” He answered the phone, but the voice that reached his ear did not belong to his grandmother, but rather, a panicked sounding Durian, the butler overseeing his
grandmother’s health.
“Sir! Big problem! Your grandmother is gravely Ill and is being rushed to the hospital as we speak!”
