Chapter 34
Asher could sense the tension in the air. Minutes after Ivory had walked out and Cameron had followed her, the rest of them, Evangeline and dadreel included, had settled in one of Golden Hours private room.
But even after the drinks had been served, not one word had been spoken. Gadreel looked lost in his own thought, while Evangeline looked like she had several things to ask.
And Asher…well, after a few more minutes, he couldn’t take it anymore.
Sighing, he stood up and decided to give the little couple of their group, some space.
“I’ll go grab… something.” He excused himself and without a second glance, walked out.
The silence after that did not last a second longer. Finally given their privacy, Evangeline spoke up.
“You’ve finalized the divorce with Ivory? Why didn’t you tell me?” She turned her attention to Gadreel, expecting an instant answer.
However, he kept his gaze fixed on the content in his glass, swirling it around in constant circles without saying a word.
He heard Evangeline speak, but ignored her, or rather, his mind was too focused on something else, Ivory and Cameron, to be more specific.
They had left together and Cameron had not returned ever since leaving. Didn’t that mean something was happening between them this very moment?
Just the thought of that alone had Gadreel’s hold around his glass tightening.
God, perhaps he should have given Cameron a well beating enough to bruise that pretty face of his. Perhaps then, he wouldn’t have the confidence to pursue Ivory.
Pursue Ivory; that statement was almost laughable, after all, what type of friend boldly announces that he’s going after his supposed best friend’s e ex wife.
Ah, the more he thought about it, the more it angered him. Why?
“Gadreel.” Evangeline called again, snapping him out of his thoughts.
He glanced at her and the expression on her face was one that could only be described as disappointment, before it was quickly masked by a forced smile.
“Finally, you’re finally listening to me.” She said, a chuckle following shortly.
‘Sorry,” He began, a frown appearing on his forehead. “What was it that you said?”
“Why didn’t you tell me you’ve finalized the divorce with Ivory,” she repeated. “Or did you
not want to?”
Gadreel blinked for a few seconds, realizing that he hadn’t even thought of doing that.
“No,” He shook his head. “That’s not it, I just…” He paused again and Evangeline frowned upon noticing his hesitation.
It was a first, and she definitely wanted it to be the last.
“It’s alright, I understand.” She said and quickly dumped the subject. “By the way, how’s your grandmother? Is she getting better?”
Gadreel nodded.
“I’m glad. I’ve always wanted her to get better. In fact, I recently bought some medicinal herbs for her,” She paused, taking a second to gauge Gadreel’s reaction before continuing Shall we go give them to her this weekend, together?”
That sounded like a nice idea, one Gadreel would have considered had he not recalled what his
Grandmother had said.
“Maybe then, we can tell her that we’re to-”
“I don’t think we should do that,” Gadreel interrupted her and for the first time, took a sip
from his drink.
He frowned at the taste. From the onset, he had never been a fan of alcohol or rather, didn’t appreciate the taste.
Evangeline was surprised, a second time.
“You don’t?” Hurt flashed across her face. “Why?”
Ah, now he was backed up against a wall. Gadreel obviously wasn’t going to tell her it was because his grandmother didn’t approve of her and he definitely wasn’t going to take her to his grandmother and test just how far the old lady would go.
“It’s not that.” He tried to say in the most calmest voice. “It’s just that,” he tried to think of a better excuse. “My divorce was just finalized, the public is going to be keeping an eye on me and if they suddenly see you at my grandmother’s home, then it will be problematic. So let’s
wait a bit.”
Evangeline was silent for a few seconds before asking. “Is that really it? Or is this just some other excuse?”
Gadreel frowned. “What?”
“It’s about Ivory, isn’t it? I saw the way you were bothered by what Cameron said. It’s all because of that, she attracting him, he going after her, isn’t it?”
“Do you honestly want to point fingers, Evangeline?” Gadreel’s patience has suddenly run

thin. He had desperately been trying to hold it together since yesterday, but now, with Evangeline poking at him, his patience had finally run dry.
“While you’re at it, why don’t you tell me what the hell you did to my grandmother to make her hate you so much?”
Evangeline blinked a few times, then avoided Gadreel’s eyes, but it was clear–the panic in her eyes, that is.
Her eyes darted around the room for a few seconds before she spoke. “I don’t know what you’re talking-” Suddenly stopping, her face contorted in pain as she felt her heart ache.
She grabbed her chest, but the pain didn’t cease, Instead it increased.
“Ah,”
The anger on Gadreel’s face quickly disappeared and was replaced by worry and concern.
“Eva? What’s wrong?” He asked, grabbing her shoulder.
“I don’t… know,” Evangeline tried to speak, but the pain in her heart prevented her from speaking, thus, the words came out weak and strained.
Gadreel’s brows furrowed and he stood up, scooping her into his arms as he did.
“We’re going to the hospital, hold on.”
Standing in front of the medical room, Gadreel stared worriedly at Evangeline who was surrounded by a few medical personnel, her face pale.
He hadn’t seen her in such a state ever, not since the day he first learnt of her heart condition and this made his worry rise.
Behind him, Lionel and Samantha, who he had called, were equally just as worried.
Thankfully, the moment didn’t drag out any longer as the doctor came out.
“Mr. Ødegaar,” He addressed Gadreel, but Lionel and Samantha were quick to jump to their feet and scurry closer.
“It seems like in the past few days, Mr. Remington’s heart has undergone severe stress. I advise you to have her undergo a heart surgery as soon as possible, else it can be dangerous.”
“Our daughter’s life is at stake? Oh Lord,” Samantha exclaimed, turning to Lionel, she buried her face in his chest.
“Is this our punishment for letting Ivory’s evil deeds go unpunished? This is all her fault, she’s a Jinx and she’s ruined Our poor daughter’s last chance!”
“I should have trained her better. But I blame her mother for this, raising such a disrespectful
and disgraceful child is all her-”
“Ivory has nothing to do with this, so shut up.” Gadreel said, interrupting the two, which had their heads snapping up.
“Excuse me?” Lionel asked, confused.
“Ivory has nothing to do with this,” He repeated, and for a short second, his eyes lingered on Samantha, before he continued. “Peter Mendez was clearly an Incompetent person and he’s been fired for that. If anything, you both are to be blamed, because you trusted the wrong person.”
He lectured and they couldn’t help but stiffen up.
“I’ll say this once; if you both still want me to invest in that company of yours, I suggest, you both quiet the fuck down and stop involving Ivory in shit that doesn’t concern her.”
Samantha and Lionel exchanged a few looks before nodding their head.
Turning back to the doctor, Gadreel said. “Please proceed with the surgery.”
”
“Unfortunately, I’m not the one who can do it.” Reaching his hand into his pocket, he pulled out an old business card that only contained a name and email address. “Doctor Wrenford the best cardiologist in all of Europe. He’d be able to carry out Ms. Remington’s surgery without any complications.”
He handed the business card over and Gadreel took it.
“Thank you.”
Nodding, the doctor went on his way, while Gadreel examined the card with a frown.
He needed a way to contact Elias Wrenford as soon as possible and Emails, weren’t going to
help.
Suddenly, an idea came to mind.
Pulling out his phone, be called Veronica Blythe.
“Good Evening, Veronica,” He began.
“Gadreel, you called me? Is something wrong? Do you need something?”
“Ineed a number to contact Elias Wrenford. I need him to carry out a surgery.” Gadreel
informed.
“Oh, Elias? Surgery? Dear, Elias stopped performing surgeries years ago, but, he has ant apprentice. Many says she’s just as good as he is.
An apprentice? Gadreel couldn’t say he wasn’t impressed. To become an apprentice of Doctor Wrenford was a hard task
“In fact,” Veronica continued. “You already know her. Arnett’s her name. The little star of Luminary.”
Once impressed, Gadreel now frowned. Arnett? The Arnett that rejected his friend request?
“And luckily, she’s in town. I gave you her contact right, why don’t you go ahead and discuss the details with her. I’m sure she’d be glad to help you out.”
Gadreel clenched his jaw, then sighed. “I can’t do that.”
“Why?” He could hear the frown in her voice and hesitated to carry
But he knew, for the sake of Evangeline, he had to settle things.
“I haven’t been in contact with Arnett. I’m fact, she didn’t accept my friend request, she rejected it.”
“What?!” Now he could hear the surprise. “That’s unusual. Arnett’s a nice, she’d never do something like that without a reason.”
There was a pause before Veronica asked. “Tell me Gadreel, have you done anything to offend Arnett?”
