Chapter 32.
Once again, the room exploded in whispers, shareholders present exchanged looks and stares.
of disbelief and horror.
“Arrest?!” Tom shouted, as his face twisted in anger.
“You’re going to arrest me? That’s absurd. Who’s the one who filed the charge?”
He looked at everyone, but no one seemed keen on answering
“It was 1.” Ivory answered with a sweet smile. “Me, Ms. Remington.”
She stepped forward and flashed a smile at him. I’ve recorded everything, from your insult, to the accusation you’ve thrown at me. Everything, and now,”
She leaned back, arms crossed, and her smile became more mischievous.
“You can rot in jail for slandering a person’s name and insulting her.”
Tom’s eyes widened and his face turned beet red. “You!” He snarled. “You bitch-”
Before he could finish, the law enforcement officers grabbed his arms and pulled him away.
“Let go of me! Don’t touch me, you fools.”
Ivory watched the scene before her with a small smile. This was just the beginning, there was a long road ahead, but she was ready to face it, no matter how many storms came her way, after all, this was the path she had chosen.
Turning back, she faced the other shareholders, a calm look on her face.
“Now that’s been handled, let’s deal with the sub problem.” Pointing fingers, she began. calling them out, “You, you, you and you,” then paused and sighed. “You know what, all of you, you’re fired. Get out.”
There was a brief silence, one where the shareholders, as of recent news, had just lost their jobs, tried to process what had just happened.
The silent was broken by the sound of each of their phones going off. All at once, they checked their phones and their eyes nearly bulged out of their skulls upon seeing the huge amount of money that had been transferred into their bank account.
“Your contract with the company has just been terminated,” Ivory added. “That’s your severance payment as well as compensation. Now get out.”
Despite her words and their earlier petition, the shareholders hesitated to even get up from their seat. Why wouldn’t they?
The amount of money they have just received is a huge amount and they could easily live a
lavish life with it, but could they really bring themselves to throw away all the benefits they could gain in the future if they continued to work under Ivory?
One look at each other and everyone reached the same conclusion; they couldn’t.
Tom may
have shot himself in the foot by being arrogant, but they knew how to bend the keel and be in a good favor with the boss.
Thus, without any hesitation, all the shareholders got up and bowed apologetically.
“Ms. Remington, forgive us for our rash decision.”
“We were ignorant and foolish.”
“We have committed an unforgivable act, one we shall pay the price for.”
“Please, forgive and don’t fire us!”
After the chorus of apologies, all the shareholders, bowed and apologized, hoping to gain forgiveness and another chance.
However, the silence that has settled after their deceitful apology, was broken by the sound of Ivory chuckling.
“The apology of each and everyone of you has been accepted,” They all breathed sighs of relief, thinking they had gotten off the book.
That bubble, unfortunately, was busted the very next second.
“But unfortunately, there’s no room in Elixiron for the likes of you who allow power to get to and such disloyalty,” She shook her head. “Can and will not be tolerated. You all have to the close of the business day to get yourselves out of my company.”

Without waiting for their responses, she turned around and walked out of the conference room. Camilla tagged behind her, but unlike Ivory’s expression, unbothered and relaxed, she was a bit tense.
“Are you sure about this, boss?”
“Hm, why wouldn’t I be?” Ivory asked, flashing a reassuring smile at Camilla.
“It’s just that, firing all the shareholders all at once can cause the stock price to fall.”
Ivory shrugged, but didn’t lose the smile on her face. “If it happens, then so be it. We’ll simply recover what we’ve lost, ten times more, and as long as I’m here, leading Elixiron, things will be alright.”
Camilla didn’t look totally convinced, but she didn’t say anything more, only nodded and trailed after Ivory.
As the two of them walked towards Ivory’s office, she started. “If you’re so afraid that the stock price will fall, make sure to keep the news of their dispatch under wrap and away from
the press. Oh, and find a new group of shareholders as soon as possible, okay?”
Camilla pulled her lip into a thin line and nodded. “Yes boss,” She said. “Consider it done.”
After dismissing the shareholders, Ivory stayed in her office for a while and after she was done, she headed towards Golden Hour to meet up with Emma, as agreed.
Emma wasted no time in ordering drinks, several at one go, to celebrate her divorce.
“Cheers, to freedom.” Raising her glass, Emma offered a toast, and Ivory, who raised her glass, reciprocated.
“Toast.”
They clicked their glasses and took a sip of their drink.
“Ah, the feeling of drinking without restrictions is the best.” Emma said and took another sip.
Ivory simply smiled and cautioned her. “Go easy.
“That’s the last thing I plan on doing tonight. And you my friend, are going to be my accomplice in the act.”
Ivory chuckled and frowned. “Accomplice?” She asked.
“Yes darling,” Emma confirmed as she straightened in her seat and took a quick look at the
room.
From head to toe, the club room of Golden Hour was filled with people. From young adults teenagers, old men and women, all gathered to enjoy the cozy, yet wild club vibe Golden Hour presented.
“Look at them,” Emma said. “The crowd. So many hot and sexy men here, all of whom are single. This is our opportunity to mingle.
‘Mingle?” Ivory asked with a frown and Emma rolled her eyes.
“Don’t be such a bore, Ivy. You’re single now, divorced! The best time to mingle is now.”
She turned around again and pointed at a group of young men seated not too far from them.
“How about them, they seem nice.”
Ivory took a glance and shook her head.
“I don’t want to do that, Em.”
“Oh come on!” Emma exclaimed. “Don’t tell me one Heartbreak turned you into a total nun?”
Chuckling, Ivory took another sip from her drink “Fortunately, it didn’t. Funny Enough, I still believe in love, that there’s someone out there for me,”
ощу
She played with the tip of her glass and smiled faintly. “I don’t just want to rush things. I made that mistake once–spent years loving someone I shouldn’t have and honestly, I don’t want that mistake to repeat itself again. For now, I think I’m just gonna focus on my career.. It’s the most important thing in my life right now.”
“I love the spirit, Ivy, but you can’t say you’re not in a rush. What if someone else snags your man like what happened with ” Emma clammed her mouth shut before she could finish, or rather, utter the name she had promised not to bring up.
Ivory simply chuckled. “Then let him. If he can be snagged by some two cents bitch, then he obviously doesn’t deserve me.”
Immediately after she had said that, the someone of someone chuckling, caught her attention.
Ivory frowned and she, along with Emma, turned their heads to the direction of the voice, only to pause once they saw who it was.
“Ah, I apologize. I didn’t mean to laugh at what you just said, but coming from you, it sounded so…cute?”
Cameron, with a cup of beer in his hand, smiled at Ivory. Beside her, Emma frowned.
“What the hell are you doing here? And, ever heard of not ease dropping in on other people’s conversations?”
“It’s not ease dropping when you speak at the top of your voice,” Cameron clarified and although he was speaking to his half sister, his eyes remained on Ivory and she held his gaze, unfazed..
“Aren’t you a bit too bold for an eavesdropper? She finally spoke and Cameron, despite the
insult, grinned.
“I am,” he admitted, with pride. “But you gotta admit, my timing’s great, otherwise, how else would I have known you’re single and ready to mingle.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“Well, you said you were single,” Cameron pointed out, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes as he shifted closer. “How about work quick and change that status. What do you think of a date with me? We’ll take things slow.”
“Oh come on!” Emma exclaimed. “Can you be any less shameless?”
But despite her words, Cameron ignored her and pushed on. “How about it?”
Ivory was silent for a few seconds, allowing herself the privilege to study his looks.
Black, cheekbone length hair, that parted in the middle, a pair of perfectly shaped lips and
nose and those eyes of his that seemed to have changed colors from brown to yellow- under the short period they had spoken.
Countr
He was a catch, but everything about him screamed playboy and that was a like Ivory didn’t see herself walking over. At least not now.
“It sounds like a terrible idea,” Distancing herself from him, she turned her attention to the variety of drinks behind the bar, paying no attention to him. “So now that you’ve gotten your answer, I hope you’d run along. Perhaps find another girl to try your pickup lines on.”
The smile on Cameron’s lips faded for a few seconds before it came back and he chuckled.
“Another rejection. Tell me Ivy,” He began and leaned closer, closer than his previous attempt, and this caught Ivory of guard when she turned and was suddenly face to face with
him.
“Is this how you treat every man who tries to pursue you, or is this simply how you’re going to treat me, because I’m related to that twerp over there?”
