Chapter 30
Shorty after leaving Empire, Gadreel, Asher and Cameron arrived at their usual boxing ring back in the days. They rented the entire place out and Cameron and Gadreel got into the ring.
“Why the sudden request though?” Cameron casted a look at Gadreel as he secured his gloves. “Any specific reason?”
“I don’t think you should be worrying about that? Worry about what you’re going to lose.” Gadreel replied.
Cameron couldn’t help but chuckle. “Alright Reel But you best get ready too, I’ve had my eyes on that Vila of yours in Rome, for quite a while.”
“Is that the only thing of mine you’ve has your eyes on?” The question had rolled off Gadreel’s tongue before he even realized it.
Cameron was confused, rightfully so, but before he could even bother to ask, Asher spoke up.
“You two sure about this?” He questioned, receiving a nod from the two.
“Alright,” He sighed. “Then, the rules are, the first to be knocked down or give up loses. Any other means is invalid. No kicking, spitting, biting, hair pulling, head–butting or any of that
sort.
He paused.
“Are you both ready?”
“Hell yeah.” Cameron said and flashed a grin, cracking his knuckles and bouncing on the balls
of his feet.
“Yes,” Came Gadreel’s response.
Asher nodded.
“In that case, fight.”
The fight began, but immediately, Gadreel had advanced, pointing hard on Cameron. Although standing his ground in the first few minutes, Cameron slowly began to lose to Gadreel’s vicious attacks.
Less than ten minutes later, Gadreel had subdued him, successful pinning him down to the mat and climbing on top him, all the while throwing continuous punches at him.
“Alright, Alright, I give up.” Cameron called out, surrendering.
But Gadreel ignored his words and kept going. Suddenly, he was yanked off by Asher who stood between them and glared at him.
“Enough, Reel.” He demanded and Gadreel reluctantly stopped.
“It’s over.” He breathed. “I win.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.”
Asher, however, wasn’t done. “What the fuck was that all about, huh?”
Gadreel, ignored him–again–as he breathed heavily, and Cameron, who had finally gotten the chance to get up, wiped the sweat off his forehead and spoke.
“Two loss in such a short period of time,” he muttered while undoing his gloves. He threw them to the ground, visibly pissed and sighed. “You won, what do you want?”
Gadreel did not hesitate to answer. “Your race car destroy it.
The frown that marred Cameron’s face was immediate and sharp. “What?”
“You heard me, your race car, destroy it.” Gadreel repeated, earning a chuckle from Cameron who couldn’t believe his ears.
Had Gadreel just asked him to destroy his race car? The only thing left behind by his mother? The sole thing he treasured like no other on this earth?
“That’s got to be a joke.”
But Gadreel’s expression was far from that.
Shaking his head, Cameron forced a chuckled. “Nah, I can’t do that. I’m not doing that.”
“So you’re going to break your word?!” Gadreel suddenly snapped.
“That better that destroying my car,” Cameron fired back. “Are you even listening to yourself Gadreel? You know how important that car is, yet you demand this? What’s come over you?”
“That’s none of your business, all I expect you of is to destroy that car. Keep your end of the deal.” Gadreel’s voice remained calm, but the look in his eyes was anything but that.
Anger eventually flared to the surface when Cameron shook his head.
“I’m not doing that.”
In one large step, Gadreel closed the distance between them and was about to grab his collar when Asher stepped in, putting his hands on both their chests.
“No fists would be flying while I’m here, so both of you,” He looked at Gadreel. “You especially, calm the fuck down.”
He shoved them both apart, but the tension in the air remained thick as they both glared at
each other.
After a few seconds, Asher sighed. Turning to Cameron, he began. “Cam, you head out first.
Gadreel’s obviously in a bad mood because of his divorce. I’ll stay and talk shit over with him, so you head home.”
Cameron didn’t budge at first, but after a few seconds he nodded. “Sure. I’ll see you around.”
With one last glance in Gadreel’s direction, he turned around and left. Asher waited till he was gone before he fixed his attention on Gadreel.
“What the fuck was that?” He asked, sternly.
Taking off his gloves, Gadreel played it off cool with a shrug, like hadn’t just tried beating their friend to death and then after, asked him to destroy the only thing left by his mother.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing?” Asher hissed. “You just asked Cam to destroy his car. You know how important that car is to him.”
Of course Gadreel knew, but he couldn’t bring himself to sympathize at this moment.
So drily, he stared and answered. “I do, and so?”
Asher was completely caught off guard by the question. He blinked for a few seconds, trying make sense of what was going on with Gadreel.
“What is wrong with you right now?”

Without answering the question asked, Gadreel began to walk towards the exit of the ring, but Asher stopped him.
“Hey, hey hey, what’s going on with you?”
Gadreel was silent. The type that drove Asher nuts, when it settled and he frowned, trying to wrap his head around things.
Then it clicked.
“Is this about Ivory?” He asked and although Gadreel didn’t speak up, the subtle change in his demeanor gave the answer Asher needed.
“You think the woman he met at the race track, Ivy, you think that’s Ivory?” He asked again, but without waiting for an answer, carried on. “But so what if it is?”
Gadreel, unable to control his expression at this point, frowned.
“What?”
“She’s your ex wife now, Gadreel,” Asher pointed out. “Even if, by some slim chance in life, Cam has taken an interest in her and wants to pursue her, that’s none of your business.”
The frown on Gadreel’s face only deepened, and mixed with the look of anger, he right about looked as if he wanted to smoke Asher for saying those words.

But Asher stood his ground, realizing his friend needed to know the truth before he did something wrong.
“Whatever happens with Ivory is no longer any of your concern. The men she see, who she’s with and who takes a fancy to her. All those are things a husband has to worry about, not you, her ex husband.”
Sighing, Asher turned around and began heading for the ring exit, but not before muttering.
“If you weren’t ready to let her go, then perhaps you shouldn’t have agreed to the divorce.”
And with that, he walked out of the ring, leaving Gadreel to stare at the ground with an expressionless face.
One would have easily thought that those words and everything that has happened today. didn’t affect him.
But one look at his eyes, once blue and clear like the ocean, now clouded by something dark and disturbing and the vein which looked like it was right about to pop, was a clear sign that Gadreel Ødegaar was anything but calm.
