Chapter 22
Grandma had taken a liking to Ivory just like how Ivory had taken a liking to her. They bonded quickly, but over the past few months, they had barely gotten time to see one another.
But now she was sick? And wanted to see them?
Ivory’s frown deepened.
She really wasn’t a fan of staying in this marriage any longer than necessary, it gave Gadreel power to interfere in certain aspects of her life.
But, if Gabriella was ill and wished to see her, then she couldn’t ignore her.
Sighing, she relented.
“Alright,”
At the sound of her voice, Gadreel turned and narrowed his eyes at her. Ivory was avoiding his gaze and said nothing more throughout the remnant of the drive.
When they arrived at the family Vila, Ivory immediately went to see Gabriella.
“Ivy, my child,” Gabriella, although old, looked youthful. Her skin was white and her hair was gray, but her beauty was undeniable.
She smiled brightly at the sight of Ivory. “You look well. I’ve missed you this past few months. Why haven’t you visited?”
“I’ve been busy, grandmother, I apologize.” Walking up to her, Ivory took her hand. “How’s your health? May I… examine you?”
Gabriella laughed. “If you can, please feel free to do so.”
1
Smiling, Ivory began examining Gabriella. She listened to her breathing, her heart rate and her blood pressure.
As she did this, Gabriella turned her gaze towards her grandson who had entered the room and was standing at the doorway, leaning against the wall.
He watched Ivory’s every move like a hawk.
“You look gloomy, my child.” Gabriella’s words caught his attention. “What happened?” She
asked.
Gadreel shook his head. “It’s nothing grandmother.”
At that moment, Ivory concluded her examination and sighed. From what she could tell, there was nothing wrong with Gabriella.
Perhaps this was just a act to have her come over
Ever the clever woman. Ivory couldn’t bring herself to be angry at such a lovely soul and saw no need in reigning on her parade.
At least not yet. So, she played along.
“It seems stress is the main issue. Shall I prepare special soup to alleviate the tension and the pain in your chest, grandmother?”
Gabriella smiled. “I would like that very much, Ivy.”
Ivory smiled and nodded. “Then, I’ll get right to work.” She got up and without casting a look in Gadreel’s direction, walked towards the kitchen.
Gadreel however, followed her. After dismissing the servants in the kitchen, he began.
“The divorce, don’t tell Grandmother about it.”
“In her current state, I have no intention of doing so,” pulling out a small out, she filled it with water and placed it on the gas before she turned to him. “But how long exactly do you think you’ll be able to hide it from her. Keeping things from her now would only prolong the inevitable.”
“I think that’s all of my business and none of yours. I’ll prolong it for as long as I need to if need be.” Gadreel responded.
“For as long as you need to? And how long do you think that would be? After all, soon I’ll be gone and Evangeline would become her beloved grand daughter in law, wouldn’t she?”
Gadreel clenched his jaw. Why was she being so difficult? Why couldn’t she just say ‘yes‘ and end things like he expected?
Then again, she has been going against his expectations of her for the past few days.
“Listen Ivory-” He started, but the very moment those words left his mouth, another voice sounded from behind her.
“What do you mean by you’ll be gone?”
Ivory jumped at the sound of that voice and spun around. Standing at the entrance was
Gabriella.
How long had she been standing there and how much had she heard?
She looked between the two and from the look on her face, it was clear she had heard enough to understand the conversation.
“Grandmother, you shouldn’t-”
‘t you dare try and change the topic and don’t you dare think of divorcing Ivory. You
family? think I’ll allow that? You think I’ll allow that thing, Evangeline become part of my That would only happen over my dead body!”
“Grandmother!” Gadreel frowned. “Why would you,” he paused, “Why would you say something like that? Evangeline’s a sweet girl. You’ll love.”
“I would never allow that spun of Satan into thy Home and get this, Gadreel, if you leave Ivory I don’t want to ever see your face!”
“Grandmother!” Gadreel couldn’t believe what he was hearing
What had Evangeline done to receive such hate from his grandmother?
“You dare argue with me now? I really ought to teach you a good lesson so that –” the rest of her words were interrupted by an outburst of cough.
Coughs racked her body, causing her to hold onto the doorframe for support.
Immediately, Ivory rushed to her side and began trying to ease her.
“You should be in bed, resting,” she turned to Gadreel and held her hand out when he opened. his mouth to speak.
“Don’t,” pointing at the door, she instructed. “Get out and walk it off. Come back in when you’re thinking on a more leveled head.”
Gadreel, although reluctant, turned and left the kitchen.
Ivory sighed. “Now,” turning back to Gabriella, she forced a smile. “Let’s get you back to bed, shall we?”
“I’m sorry,” Gabriella, holding Ivory’s hand while she laid in bed, began. “I know that child can be impulsive at times, but please, bare with him.”
“As for the divorce, I’ll handle it. I’ll talk to him and have him retract it and-”
“Grandmother,” Ivory interrupted softly, smiling and feeling touched over Gabriella decision, but unfortunately, this was the road she wanted to follow. “The divorce was my decision. I
asked for it.”
“Ivory, my child,” Gabriella looked surprised. “Why would you?” She shook her head. “It’s
that child’s fault. I’m sure of it.”
“Even if it is, it won’t stop the divorce.” Ivory squeezed her hand. “So please Grandmother, I hope you can respect and accept my decision.”
Gabriella was silent for a few minutes. The silence was broken when she suddenly said, “I really wanted my great grandchild to have that beautiful hair of yours.” She smiled sadly. “But if looks like, that’ll never be.”
Tapping her hand, she added. “Although it hurts me, I wish you luck on whatever path you want to follow and I’ll definitely respect whatever decisions you make.”

Ivory smiled brightly, touched by those words.
“Thank you, grandmother. Now, I’ll have to excuse myself and get back to the soup.”
“Yes, yes, I’ll just rest here, thank you!
Ivory nodded and got up. Exiting the room, she was startled by the presence of Gadreel.
“How is she?” He asked.
“She’s fine and so is everything. I explained that the divorce my idea to her. It seems she’s
come to terms with it. We can proceed, but unfortunately, the registration would have to be
tomorrow.”
Glancing at her watch, she frowned and added. “I’s late, the court would have closed by now.”
When she looked back up, Gadreel was staring silently at her.
Ivory frowned. “What?”
What? That was an odd question. The main question here should have been coming from him and it should have been why she didn’t take advantage of the situation earlier.
With his grandmother on her side, she could have easily gotten him to cancel the whole divorce shit.
Yet, she told his grandmother the whole truth and even got her understanding and now, the
look on her face as she checked the time…
Disappointment.
It was all clear that she was eager to get a divorce and Gadreel couldn’t help but now wonder
why.
But just as he opened his mouth to speak, the sound of Ivory’s ringtone cut him off.
Reaching for her phone, Ivory’s facial expression relaxed a bit the moment she saw it was Emma calling.
She stepped away and answered the call. Entering the kitchen, she placed the phone on
speaker and on the Island, beginning to prep the ingredients for the soup.
“Hey Em, What’s up?
지
“Ivy, this instant, where are you?”
Ivory hesitated. “Around, why?”
“I’m going to send you my location, you have to come quickly!”
Ivory frowned. The excitement in her friends voice hadn’t gone unnoticed.
“What’s happening, Em?”
Η
“I was going to keep it as a surprise, but since you want to know, here is. Five, I got you five hot bachelor dates!”
