The next day, as discussed, Evangeline sat in one of the medical wards, awaiting the arrival of Doctor A.
Beside her, both her parents stood, whispering soothing words of reassurance and congrats. But as much as she loved them, none of their words mattered as much as Gadreel’s presence did.
Standing on the other side of her, he had placed his hand on the lower edge of her back and rubbed it soothingly, looking down at her with a gaze that made Evangeline want to be a baby in his embrace.
“I really hope everything goes well,” She fiddle with the tip of her fingers, for once, feeling genuinely nervous. This her big break. Ever since she was little, she had always been restricted from doing certain things because of her poor heart condition. But she didn’t let that deter her from her passion in acting
However, last year, things took a turn for the worse and she had to suspend all activities on acting as per doctor’s
orders.
But now, with the surgery going to be an obvious success, Evangeline could finally return back to acting
That, along with Gadreel’s presence, was the only solace she received for such a horrible situation.
“It’s going to be okay,” Gadreel flashed her a tender smile after hearing her words and his hand moved to Ruby soothing circles against her back.
For all those watching, the scene looked like a wonder. Like a scene ripped straight out of a romance story and the stage had been set by God himself for the main couples, Gadreel and Evangeline.
Watching this, they couldn’t help but gossip.
“I sure do envy her,” One whispered underneath their breath, discussing with their companion beside them. “Not every woman gets blessed with a man like Gadreel Odegaar
“You’re right, but then again, couldn’t you tell from the very beginning that she’s a lucky one. God’s favorite, if I had to say. I mean, look at them, after everything their relationship has been through, they’re still together.”
“You’re right, it’s like a match made in heaven. Even the Lord himself had to give their love a second chance after the hardship it’s been through. I truly envy their love.”
The whisper, although that’s what they were meant to be, eventually turned into not so subtle talk and glances, gestures that for some reason, made Gadreel uncomfortable, even if his expression and posture did not show it.
Evangeline however, was the total opposite. Hearing how people envied and praised the love between she and Gadreel filled her heart with delight.
It was a good thing, after all, if common in lookers and outsiders could see how much their love has strengthened and grown, then who was she to ever doubt it.
Thus, she smiled, feeling a lot better. However, that blissful bubble only lasted a short while before it was busted by the presence of Ivory.
The moment she stepped into the ward, the entire room was filled with a rosy and sweet scent. A scent that had the hair on Evangeline’s body standing and her entire mood deteriorating.
A scent that had Gadreel, Lionel and Samantha, looking in the direction the scent came from and watching the woman who carried it with her.
Samantha was the first to speak, hissing with disdain. “What is she doing here? Has she come to find trouble again?”

“How dare she come to look for more trouble after that disgraceful display yesterday?” Lionel added.
Their voice did not fail to reach Ivory’s ear. Unfortunately for them, whatever they were saying, did not matter to her, not as much as the realization that was dawning on Ivory did.
436, that was the number tag for the patient she was meant to meet up with, and surprisingly, that was the same number tag Evangeline was wearing.
That couldn’t be possible, right? After all, the patient’s name had been-
Ivory’s mind went blank with the realization that due to her rushing earlier this morning, she had failed to look at the client’s detail and only studied the medical detalls.
Ah, of course Ivory, you just had to fuck this one up!
“What are you doing here?” The sound of Gadreel’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
He stepped in front of her, blocking her line of sight as she had been staring dagger at Evangeline, well, to be. more accurate, she had been glaring at the number tag, not the owner.

Ivory opened her mouth to speak, but before she could even get a single word out, Gadreel had beat her to
“I’ll say this once. I have no time for you, so whatever you’re dissatisfied with, be it the divorce compensation or whatever, you can talk to my lawyer. Now,” He gestured with his hands for her to leave. “Leave.”
Ivory couldn’t help but blink in confusion. Did he think she was here for him?
Ah, that’s right, none of them knew she was Doctor A; the A in the name Arnett, her mother’s middle name and the codename she had chosen for her Luminary Accord’s profile.
And apparently, her patient for today, the one Lucien had assigned to her, was her ever so delicate step sister, Evangeline.
Did they, really want her to leave?
“I should leave?” She took the Liberty to confirm, staring Cadreel straight in the eyes.
From behind, her father spoke up. “I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t. A presences like yours would only do more harm than good and I think we can all agree that you’ve already done enough of that to the relationship between Gadreel and Our Eva. Quietly leave before you cause any more damage!” He loudly rebuked.
Ivory frowned, not at his words, but at the fact that it had attracted the attention of several.
From behind, people began to whisper, eyes of scrutiny set on her.
“…a a homewrecker?” She heard one question in a low voice.
“I can’t believe despicable people like her still exist. How can she want to ruin such a happy couple. Shameless!” Another added, making their displeasure clear.
And soon enough, a few other people’s, without caring whether she’d hear or not, joined in.
“What type of woman ruins a couple, especially when that couple has gone through so much and has the blessings of God.”
“Indeed. What is she thinking? Or rather, what is wrong with her head?”

As their whispers continued to spread, Ivory wasn’t quite sure why, but she glanced in Gadreel’s direction.
Perhaps, that was her subconscious the very part of her that was yet to get rid of the feelings she held onto for five years- wishing that he’d rebuke such rumors and standup for her.
But alas, that was just her wishful thinking
She could tell from the way his eyes remained cold and his face expressionless, that he did not disagree words having been spoken and her dignity and reputation, theant nothing to him.
He didn’t care if it would be destroyed by the mouth of others.
That was just how little she meant to him.
Such a realization, yet again, hit Ivory in the part of her heart that still held onto small feelings for Gadreel
Swallowing the pain, she asked again. “Should I really, leave?”
“Leave Ivory,” Gadreel ordered, his tone firm and his expression, dark. “I don’t have time for you. And I don’t think anyone wants you in this ward. Right now, what matters is Evangeline’s treatment and we can’t have your presence screwing that up.”
Yet another painful truth that no one refused. They all kept silent looking right at her, like Gedeel had said nothing wrong.
The only person who made an effort to show anything but a blank or disdain coated face, was Evangeline who threw a crocked smile at her.
Ivory, lowering her head, chuckled lightly.
It seemed they really didn’t need her here. Well, that was their loss.
“Alright, suit yourself.” She sneered and turned around, walking out of the ward and hospital.
As she walked to her car, she pulled out her phone and shot a quick text to the physician in charge of the case, letting him know that she’d no longer be handling the case, or more accurately, she rejects the case.
Entering the car, she casted a look in the hospital’s direction and shook her head.
Bunch of fools, she thought, it was their loss, sending her away, because believe it or not, she had actually thought of treating Evangeline.
The thought had crossed her mind and she had entertained it, not because she had a soft heart or she loved Evangeline or considered her family, but rather because of her principles as a doctor.
But it seems that principle be damned. Not everyone deserved to be saved and in this case, Evangeline didn’t deserve her help.
She refuses to waste anymore time on the likes of those people who she called her family. She wouldn’t repeat the same mistake she had made five years ago.
If Evangeline’s heart chose to stop beating, then so be it! Ivory would be damned before she lifted a finger to save her!
