Chapter 10 Welcome, Boss!
Monday rolled about quicker than even Ivory could have imagined. She had spent the whole weekend in preparation and looking through the company files, getting familiar with all the important stuff she needed to know
Lucien had kept her company for the major part of her preparation, which was a relief. And with her being so busy, she barely had time to think of Gadreel or her family’s nonsense
That morning, she woke up at 5, took a shower and dressed up
Wearing a tight, long sleeve black turtleneck with a white coat draped over her shoulders and paired with a pencil skirt and heels, Ivory was ready to make most of her first day in the office.
As she stepped out of her room, Emma spotted her and threw a compliment her way.
“Looking good, Ivy. You going somewhere?”
Ivory responded with a hum as she stuffed her mouth with the scrambled eggs Emma had prepared.
“Work,” She answered verbally just as her phone dinged with a message from Lucien, leaving no extra room for Emma to question her.
I’ve gotta go now,” She announced. “I’ll be late.”
With that said, she picked up her purse and walked out, all the while reading Lucien’s text.
[Contact me if anything goes wrong. The message read. Ivory could almost hear the stern tone Lucien would use
While typing her reply, she chuckled. [I will.]
The ride to the office was rather pleasant. Upon her arrival, she Camilla at the door, awaiting her arrival.
As soon as she spotted her, Camilla bowed. “Welcome, Boss”
. Her voice was so enthusiastic that it brought a vague smile to Ivory’s face, as well as drew the attention of others.
“Boss?” Someone whispered with wide eyes.
“That…that’s the new boss?” Another questioned. From his facial expression alone, it was clear to him that he was finding it hard to believe that the person that would now be running their company was this young
That couldn’t be possible; many concluded, after all, their great company, Elixiron Biopharmaceuticals, the biggest and best pharmaceutical company in the industry and spread across several countries, had been founded five years ago, and it had risen to the top in no time at all, becoming a big name that could compete with the best of the best, could not be placed in the hands of a woman, barely in her thirties.
In fact, if it were not for the news, that Elixiron had recently undergone a change in management and that the previous CEO had stepped down because of personal business issues and was finding another to replace him, they would have thought Camilla’s words earlier was a funny prank on all.
But from the serious look on Camilla’s face, they could all tell this was the real deal.
Immediately, murmur and whispers broke out across the room and all eyes were fixed on Ivory.
However, she ignored every single one of them and focused on the more important matter at hand.
“Everyone’s awaiting your arrival,” Camilla informed. “This way please.”
She began leading the way towards the conference room. Upon arriving, Ivory could hear the directors discussing

amongst themselves.
But, whatever conversation they were holding, died down the moment she stepped into the conference room.
Everyone’s eyes fell on her and a silence filled the room.
“Who are you?” one of the board directors asked.
“Ivory Remington,” Ivory Introduced, walling towards the head seat, but not taking a seat. She stood there and surveyed the people gathered for a short while, before continuing “As of today, I’ll be in charge of handling the decision–making of Elixiron. I will be your CRO”
Murmur and whispers broke out across the room and looks of disbelief flashed across the faces of every shareholder present.
“The CEO? A woman?” One of them sald, eyeing Ivory from head to toe before shaking his head. “Unacceptable.”
“And she’s so young at that,” another joined in. “Elixiron would fall to ruins if she becomes the CEO. I don’t think I can stand for that!”
The other shareholders agreed immediately after, not bothering to hide their distaste, and even started spreading rumors about how Ivory got the position. No one believed such a young beauty was a material of CEO. She should go back home and pout to her sugar daddy for those luxurious bags or jewels instead of coming to the company and making a mess.
These men were arrogant and selfish as always, preferring to conclude a woman’s worth based on her youth or beauty alone. Ivory sneered as she sat down, silently observing who were those black sheep that she should kick
out
“We decide to revote!” The director who spoke up first announced. “And we all together hold 20% shares, enough to influence the appointment of the CEO.”
Well, a nice attack, Ivory thought. She sighted those faces as she tapped the desk, entertaining the thought of how they would react when she claimed her identity as the biggest shareholder who owned 75% independently. Their real Boss. Though it was not the best time for her to reveal that now. She had other plans with that.
The next second, the door opened and Camilla rushed in
“I apologize for the interruption, but,” She approached with speed, handing a file to Ivory. “Mr. Varg’s authorization paper just arrived that he would fully support Ivory Remington as the new CEO without any condition and he expects the same from all of you.”
Once again, the room erupted in whispers.
“Mr. Varga?” One of the shareholders whispered. “That legendary Lucien Varga?”
“Isn’t he our mysterious Boss?” Another asked. “How could this woman hook up with him?”
Camilla, ignoring the voice, quickly projected the document onto the large screen in the meeting. Lucien Varga’s exclusive seal was printed clearly on the paper.

Immediately, the room fell into a still silence. If Lucien Varta was even on her side, it wouldn’t be easy for them to overturn this appointment. Some started to consider that they should get right with this new CEO. Who who else she had got at her back?
Ivory turned to face the rest of the shareholders, a professional smile dancing across her lips.
“I believe with that, no more questions, yes?” She looked around the table and most people avoided her gaze, even those who had something to say, bitten back their words.
“Then, starting today, things here would be handled differently,” She began, officially taking her seat and crossing her legs. “My way.”
“Now, let’s begin the meeting.”

An hour after the meeting had began, it was finally called to a close.
Although some of the directors had tried to oppose her a few times during the meeting, she silenced them and they had no choice but to comply, because Lacien’s support was huge, so their arguments and attempts had come to nothing
Walking out of the conference room, Ivory was les by Camilla to her new office. It was stunning, fitted with a full set matching color furniture and a ceiling to floor window, overseeing the entire city.
Ivory smiled. It was perfect. In fact, she could get used to this
Turning to Camilla, she instructed. “Be a dear and get me a cup of coffee, would you?”
The assistant nodded and as soon as she was gone, Ivory pulled out her phone and dialed Lucien’s number.
Immediately, the line was answered.
“How was the meeting?” Lucien asked.
“It went smoothly, but I only have you to thank for that.” She said as she slid into one of the chairs. “Thank you for your support, Lucy, I owe you one for today.”
Lucien laughed, “You know I’ll always be on your side, V.”
The soft and smooth sound had the smile on her lips growing. She suddenly realized how much she had missed hearing from him.
“So, when will you come back to Paris? Hit me up and I’ll happily treat you to a meal.” She said.
“I’m gonna be away for a bit, but I’ll let you know when I’m done with everything, so you best keep to your words, V, I’m looking forward to that dinner.”
Ivory smiled and nodded. “Of course, I’ll see you soon, Lucy”
“See you soon, V. Bye.”
After that, the call ended and she placed the phone back on her desk.
She leaned back against the chair and stretched her arms, a smile dancing across her lips.
For the first time in a while, she felt like a winner. She was on her way to accomplishing the goal she had set out
to accomplish when she first founded Elixiron and finally, finally, she was going to get what she had always dreamed of, recognition.
Just then, Camilla walked in, carrying a cup of Coffee.
“Your Coffee, Boss.” She placed it on the table. “As for what you asked, I’ve made sure that all pictures posted online about you have been deleted”
Ivory nodded and went toward her desk but Camilla wasn’t finished. The assistant’s silence was loud, a prelude to something Ivory instinctively knew she wasn’t going to like
“What is it?” Ivory asked.

Camilla hesitated, her lips parting and closing as if weighing her words carefully. “The Odexa Group just sent a new acquisition letter of intent.”
Gadreel’s company? Ivory frowned as she remembered that she had once been looking forward to this acquisition. She thought, no, she believed it would have been a wonderful surprise that would have strengthened the bond of their marriage.
But…that was wishful thinking and Ivory had long woken up from that dream.
“Cancel the acquisition procedure.
