There was a slight tremor in Grayson’s voice.
“Violet, will you really never forgive me?”
Aurora nodded without hesitation.
“No, never.”
She didn’t wait for his reaction. Turning away, she stepped through the doorway and disappeared inside.
The next day, she had plans to attend a concert with Nate.
Ever since her hearing had recovered, she had developed a deep appreciation for sound. The rustling of leaves, the resonance of
instruments, the murmur of human voices–each carried its own unique rhythm.
Nate was a devoted classical music fan. Every time she attended a concert with him, she learned something new.
That night, Grayson stood outside the estate until morning. The words Aurora had spoken echoed endlessly in his mind.
The relief he had once felt after his first time with Ruby had now turned into a boomerang, striking him squarely in the chest.
But he wasn’t ready to give up yet. He refused to believe that five years of love could vanish just like that.
Aurora, meanwhile, hummed a tune as she descended the stairs, lighthearted as a bird greeting the dawn.
Her mother, seated at the dining table, glanced up and couldn’t resist a playful remark.
“And to think you were the one insisting you didn’t want to see him! Now you can’t seem to wait. I’d say this childhood betrothal of yours might just work out after all.”
It was a simple joke, but for some reason, Aurora felt warmth creep up her face.
“Mom, we’re just friends!”
With that, she rushed out the door.
The concert tickets were hard to come by, and Nate had mentioned that his favorite cellist would be performing.
The moment she stepped outside, she saw Grayson standing motionless near the gate. Without sparing him a glance, she ran
straight toward Nate.
He was waiting for her, holding a sandwich in one hand. He handed it over without a second thought.
“My mom insisted I bring this for you.”
Aurora took a bite and brightened instantly.
