CHAPTER 56
ADAM’S POV
Ever since Aria stepped inside the office, my heart has not stopped fluttering. I have been anticipating for what feels like eternity.
When my assistant informed me that we secured the project and would be collaborating with Jackson Company, I was overjoyed.
I assumed Aria would have been aware, but her surprise upon seeing me in Clark’s office revealed otherwise. Her questioning of Clark about my presence made it clear–she had believed Jackson Paragon would be the sole participant in this project.
Since the moment our eyes met and our hands briefly connected in a handshake, I’ve found it impossible to look away from her.
She’s stunning, and all I can think about is how much I wish I could have her back in my life.
One thing that truly lifts my spirits today is the fact that Arla came here alone. The mere thought of her potentially being accompanied by her new partner fills me with a mix of apprehension and discomfort.
Clark elaborates on the significance of securing the contract with Wellington Enterprises, emphasizing his commitment to
fairness. Recognizing the strengths of both our companies, he expresses his desire to give each of us an equal opportunity to
showcase our capabilities. It’s evident that he values the potential of our collaboration.
Clarifying that this marks our first venture together, Clark underscores the importance of successfully completing this project.
He assures us that if we deliver as expected, both our companies will have the opportunity to handle all of Wellington
Enterprises‘ projects in the future. It’s a promising prospect, one that underscores the significance of our current collaboration
and the potential for long–term partnership.
“Are you both ready to work on this project with us?”
As Clark directs his question towards us, Aria’s silence sends a shiver of apprehension down my spine. The absence of her
response fills the room with an eerie tension, leaving me on edge and fearful of what her silence might signify.
As Clark and I wait in anticipation for Aria’s response, I’m filled with a mix of nervousness and hope.
“I am
Aria finally responds and a wave of relief washes over me, calming the frantic beating of my heart. It’s a moment of reassurance, signaling the beginning of our collaborative journey and a glimmer of hope to make amends.
With the decision made and Aria’s agreement sealed, Clark wastes no time in presenting the contract for both of us to sign on the spot. The sudden shift from discussion to action catches me off guard, but I recognize the urgency of the moment.
As I reach for the pen, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement mingled with a touch of apprehension, knowing that this signature marks the beginning of a new chapter for both our companies.
Clark’s invitation to a dinner party tomorrow night hangs in the air, and I waste no time in accepting. After all, who would refuse such an offer from someone of his stature? My response is instantaneous.
“Sure, I’ll be able to make it.”

With bated breath, I await Aria’s reply, hoping fervently that she will echo my sentiments. When she responds politely, a sense of
relief washes over me. It seems that we’re both on the same page, at least for now.
“Certainly, Mr. Wellington.”
“Call me Clark”
As Clark smiles at Aria, a pang of jealousy courses through me. Her beauty is undeniable, captivating the attention of any man who lays eyes on her. With each passing moment, I find myself fighting the urge to insert myself between them, unable to shake
the irrational fear of losing her to someone else. It’s a tumultuous mix of emotions, the intensity of which threatens to consume
me as I grapple with my own insecurities.
As Clark bids us farewell, Arla and I exit together, a façade of normalcy masking the tension between us. Walking side by side
towards the lifts, I’m acutely aware of the silence that hangs heavy between us. Despite my attempts to engage her in
conversation, Aria remains resolutely silent.
As we reach the lifts, I gesture for her to enter first, a small gesture to ease any discomfort she may feel. Standing behind her, I’m
careful not to intrude on her personal space, mindful of the delicate balance between us. It’s a silent acknowledgement of the
unspoken distance that separates us, even as we stand in such close proximity.
When we reach the lobby, Aria paces briskly and I only get the chance to say one word.
“Congratulations.”
Arla’s abrupt departure catches me off guard, leaving me standing there, momentarily stunned. Instead of responding, she simply glances over her shoulder before turning away and briskly walking out of the building to her car.
With a sudden surge of speed, she drives off, leaving me rooted to the spot, a mixture of confusion and concern swirling within
- me.
