“Did you not promise Yelena’s grandfather that you’d take good care of her for the rest of her life? Look at you now! How did we raise such an ungrateful brat like you!”
Tina was out of breath after laying out so much evidence of Steven’s wrongdoings.
After he heard all those accusations, Steven’s mask finally broke. He fell to the ground, his whole body trembling.
As it turned out, Tina and Jim were well aware of how Steven had changed over the years.
He had originally been a lowly illegitimate child, so when he had met the similarly underprivileged Wendy, he had naturally found solace in her,
His heart had long since gone astray.
The vows and promises he’d made had all but turned to dust in the face of true love.
I did not want to dwell on the past. I calmly handed the divorce papers over to him once again.
“Steven, I don’t want to discuss who made what mistakes in the past. But I also refuse to admit to any of those crimes you
accused me of. Let’s just get a divorce.

“Hurry up and sign the papers, then leave. I want to go back to my birthday party.”
Steven’s face was ashen as he stared at the divorce papers unblinkingly.
“Yelena, do you really want to get a divorce?”
I nodded, and I saw the light in his eyes dim.
Right as he was about to sign the papers, his phone rang.
It was a call from Wendy.
“Stevie, I think I have a fever. My whole body is burning up. I’m worried it’ll affect the baby…”
However, now that he knew the truth, Steven was no longer his usual gentle self with Wendy.
Instead, he scoffed at her and said, “Wendy, if you’re sick, then you should just go to the hospital. Don’t drag it out. We wouldn’t want you to suddenly feel better before you even reach the hospital.”
Wendy seemingly could not believe the abrupt change in Steven’s attitude.
“Stevie! Why are you talking to me like this? Did that bitch, Yelena, say something to you again?” she screeched.
Steven promptly ended the call.
After a while, he turned his gaze back to me, his eyes filled with regret.
However, I ignored all of that.
In a calm voice, I said, “You’re so fortunate, Steven. You just lost one child, but another one is on its way. Congratulations, you’re
a dad again!”
Beth’s next words made him flinch yet again.
“Though, I do want to let you in on a little secret, Mr. Hough. I’ve heard Wendy’s name brought up a few times when I was overseas. She seems to know the rich heirs there on quite the personal
level.”
