Chapter 8
“Also, my aunt is an obstetrician–gynecologist. She assisted Wendy with an abortion before. She told me about it after she saw
Wendy’s student ID. You’ll be able to find these records if you go to the hospital that my aunt works at.”
Everyone gasped at this piece of news, and Steven’s expression darkened.
It naturally never crossed his mind that the innocent girl he had cherished so carefully was actually so promiscuous.
He clenched his fists tightly, refusing to believe any of it.
I, too, had not expected his love for Wendy to run so deeply.
Steven pointed a finger at my face as he accused, “Even if you were innocent during those incidents, how do you explain the part where you took advantage of me being drunk and getting pregnant with my child? Don’t tell me you weren’t the one at fault
here!”
I didn’t get a chance to explain the truth before Tina stepped in front of me.
“I was the one who had Yelena go to the bar to look for you. When you two came back, I was also the one who locked you both in your room. If you want to blame someone, then blame me! It was my idea!”
Steven looked at his mother in shock.
Tina continued to explain, “Don’t you know the kind of person Yelena is by now? How much longer are you going to let that bitch continue to deceive you?
“Have you forgotten about how Yelena took all the money her grandfather put aside for her wedding and gave it to you to help launch your company? It was so you could earn your father’s approval.
“Are you so bewitched by that bitch that you’ve lost your soul? You’ve harmed Yelena again and again because of her! You claim that she nearly lost her career, but what about Yelena? She lost her baby, and her hand is crippled! Who’s going to pay for that?
“Did you not promise Yelena’s grandfather that you’d take good care of her for the rest of her life? Look at you now! How did we raise such an ungrateful brat like you!”
Tina was out of breath after laying out so much evidence of Steven’s wrongdoings.
After he heard all those accusations, Steven’s mask finally broke. He fell to the ground, his whole body trembling.
As it turned out, Tina and Jim were well aware of how Steven had changed over the years.
He had originally been a lowly illegitimate child, so when he had met the similarly underprivileged Wendy, he had naturally found solace in her,
His heart had long since gone astray.
The vows and promises he’d made had all but turned to dust in the face of true love.
I did not want to dwell on the past. I calmly handed the divorce papers over to him once again.
