Everyone was frantically shouting in panic. Bianca was next to Nathan. Her first reaction was to push Nathan away to clear the blocked path, then she didn’t hesitate to run out,
Elliot held me tightly and rushed out with me, but the crystal chandelier above us fell due to the violent shaking.
“Sienna, watch out!” Nathan shouted and reached out to shove me hard.
In a reflex, I pressed down on Elliot and bent over to protect him. However, in the confusion, both Elliot and I fell to the ground,
and the chandelier crashed down.
I closed my eyes in fear, but the pain I expected never came.

Opening my eyes, I saw Nathan lying on top of me, using his body to shield part of the chandelier’s weight. He groaned, blood
spilling from the corner of his mouth.
As for Elliot, he had been beneath me, but just before the chandelier fell, he suddenly flipped over and pushed me away with all
his might, so the other part of the chandelier landed on him.
Glass shattered all over the ground, and he lay still.
Nathan looked up at me, his chest soaked with blood. Seeing that I was okay, he exhaled a breath of relief, then collapsed onto the
ground. His mouth moved as though he was trying to say something, but the words were unclear.
The earthquake stopped, and after a few minutes of shaking, everything returned to calm.
I kept slapping Elliot’s face. “Elliot, Elliot, wake up!”
He struggled to open his eyes. His face was pale and his eyelids drooped again, but he was still comforting me, “I’m fine.”
I hugged him tightly with tears running down my face, eventually falling onto his face.
As for Nathan, who was lying beside me, I didn’t spare him a glance.
The earthquake was over, and no one had the heart to celebrate anymore. Everyone either went to the hospital or went home.
The ambulance took Elliot and Nathan away. They were the two most seriously injured in the incident.
I stayed by Elliot’s side, hoping he would recover quickly.
While I went to get water, I passed by Nathan’s hospital room and overheard him talking with Bianca.
“Nathan, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to push you away that day…” Bianca’s voice was full of regret, but it was just regret.
“It’s okay. Self–preservation is instinct. I don’t blame you.” Nathan’s voice was no longer as warm as before, now cold and flat. “Just like last time, I also let go of Sienna’s hand. Just once, and then I never had the chance again.”
“What?”
“Nothing.”
Nathan gave a self–deprecating smile. “I wish you a happy engagement.”
“Nathan, will we still be good friends?” Bianca asked, but Nathan didn’t respond.
