Staring at the empty hallway, I realized even Jasper couldn’t handle being completely ignored.
My room faced the stairwell, and a faint light spilled out from there.
A sense of dread crept over me, and I called security, assuming it was an intruder.
But when they arrived and opened the stairwell door, they found Jasper there.

Chapter 7
He was sitting on the stairs, a laptop balanced on his legs, working.
The flashlight’s beam made him squint, unable to keep his eyes open, while the security guard looked at me, puzzled.
“Miss Long, is this the suspicious person you were talking about? In a suit and tie? He doesn’t look the part to me.”
Jasper gave me a wounded look. “Selena, is this really how you see me?”
Then, turning to the guard, he added, “I had a little argument with my wife. Do you really have to get involved?”
The guards exchanged awkward glances and, shaking their heads, walked away.
I glanced at Jasper, who was looking at me with hope in his eyes, then turned away, heading for my room.
Suddenly, a hand grabbed my wrist.
“Selena, it’s freezing tonight, and the hotel has no vacancies. Can you let me stay with you, just for one night?”
I tried to pull my hand free. After several failed attempts, I gave up.

“Jasper, if I recall, you own dozens of properties in Cloudflare. Surely, you can find a bed in one of them. Why lower yourself by
trying to stay in my room? And besides, aren’t you afraid your wife will get jealous?”
Jasper froze for a moment, then blinked, looking genuinely confused. “My wife? But that’s you.”
Met out a mocking laugh. “Don’t tell me you never planned to marry Molly Fox after she gave birth to your child.”
“Selena, so that’s what’s been bothering you. You’ve misunderstood. I would never let another woman have my child. After you
left, I ended things with Molly. I’ve been waiting for you these past three years. There hasn’t been anyone else.”
Three years ago, James contacted me, telling me Jasper was trying to find me and asking if I wanted to reach out to him.
I changed my number to avoid Jasper, so I told James not to entertain him.
It had been three years. Jasper was nothing if not persistent.
But I already gave him his chance.
“Jasper, have you forgotten what you did to me? I gave up my career to have a child, and you fed me contraceptives while I was
trying to conceive. That glass of milk I thought was filled with love? It was poison. You lied to me, hurt me, over and over all for
Molly Fox. Did it ever cross your mind how I might feel?
“Wait for me? What right do you have to wait for me? And why do you think your waiting obligates me to come back to you?”
