Mrs. Xander hesitated, then let out a heavy sigh. “If Layla really dared to joke about something like this, I would never forgive her
for the rest of my life.”
Sean fell silent..
If this whole situation was orchestrated with Mr. Perry Sr.’s help, then Layla’s position in his heart must be far too important.
If Sean were to marry her, wouldn’t he be overshadowed by Layla forever, with Mr. Perry Sr. constantly supporting her and
keeping him in check?
The more he thought about it, the heavier Sean’s heart grew.
Inside the villa, William stood outside Layla’s bedroom door, hesitating to knock

The mighty head of the Lucas family, undefeated in the business world, was at a complete loss when it came to consoling a
woman.
Just as he was caught in indecision, the door suddenly opened.
Both of them froze.
Layla forced a smile and handed him her empty cup. “The coffee was really good. Thank you.”

“I’m fine. I’ve long since gotten used to this,” Layla said lightly, pretending to be at ease. “Maybe it’s for the best. At least this way, I can quietly leave this world.”
“No.”
William’s voice was firm and resolute, startling Layla.
“You won’t die.”
His expression was cold and serious. “As long as you cooperate with the treatment, there’s still a sliver of hope. You shouldn’t. give up your life for people who don’t matter.”
“I’m not…”
“Go for chemotherapy,” William interrupted. “I was about to tell you this earlier. Levi said it’s crucial to get you to the hospital as
soon as possible.”
Layla met his gaze, her eyes unusually calm, as if she had already made up her mind.

Living under William’s roof already felt like she was burdening him. How could she ask him to do more?
For someone she barely knew, William had already done so much. She was deeply grateful but didn’t feel entitled to ask for more.
“Mr. Lucas, I’m feeling a bit tired. I’ll head back to rest now,” she said, reaching to close the door.
Before she could, William pressed his hand against the door to stop it
“Fine. If you don’t want to talk about this, I won’t bring it up again. But I have something else to say.”
“What is it?”
“Come with me on a business trip. We’re heading south,” he said.
Layla frowned, puzzled. “Why would you bring me on a business trip? I can’t help with anything.”
“Think of it as a chance to relax,” William replied, pausing for a moment before adding seriously, “Besides, I need a female.

“It’s settled then.” Without giving her a chance to argue, William turned and walked away.
Layla frowned slightly, sensing something wasn’t right.
With his status, would William really struggle to find a companion?
The day of the trip arrived, and Layla still hadn’t figured out William’s real intentions for bringing her along.
It wasn’t until the plane landed that her mindset shifted.
She was already here–so what did it matter?
Just then, her phone chimed with a notification.
