Chapter 29
Andera’s pov
I hated Thane. I have never had so much hatred for one person. I hated him for what he did to me seven years ago, for believing I would stoop so low and steal from him, my husband. Nothing could quench that anger
But yet, here we are, lips crashing into one another’s. Just like on our first night.
They say there is a thin line between love and hate. If that’s true, then I am balancing precariously on that line. I know I will never
love Thane, not like I used to, but tonight, just for tonight, I’ll risk it. I will put one foot on the other side of that line.
I parted my lips for him, allowing Thane to deepen the kiss.
We could have tonight, this frenzied moment of reckless abandon, not caring if were divorced, business partners or not.
Come morning, I will go back to hating Thane, to orchestrating his ruin.
Tonight, I break my rules.
Thane groaned, pulling my head closer. Using his tongue to tease me, making me crave more of him.
I knew any of the nurses could walk in and see us sticking our tongues in each other’s throats, but that only excited me more. The
idea of kissing my ex–husband in a hospital room where anyone could see us.
Not bad.
I guess it was the sight of Thane kneeling before me that caused my undoing. Something inside of me melted, not completely though, but enough to make me kiss Thane.
Slowly, I pulled my lips away, watching as Thane breathed hard. I knew he was restraining himself from kissing me a second time, and I knew that if he didn’t leave now, he would do it again, and I wouldn’t do anything to stop him because I wanted his lips as much as he wanted mine.
Please leave.” I said, turning my eyes away from him. “I will be fine. I can get my security.
Thane tilted my head so I was looking at him.
“What do you mean? I’m not leaving you, Andera. ”
I sighed.
Thane stood straight and slid his hands into my pocket. I turned away again, unable to look at his face with my lipstick smeared
on his lips.
“I want you to get out, Thane! That’s what I mean. “I hissed
“So you’re just going to pretend as if we didn’t just kiss each other?”

Yes. Yes, I am. This kiss meant nothing. I still hate you and I will continue to. And oh, if I were you, I’d watch my back. Don’t think I’ve forgotten how you treated me while we were married. “I seethed.
“You’re wrong Andera. I know I didn’t do right by you, but I want…I want to fix that.”
I laughed scornfully.
“There is nothing to fix Thane. And this kiss, it’s just a spur of the moment. I’m grateful to you for saving me, and so we kissed.
It changes nothing
“It changes everything!” Thane shouted.
The nurse who had just left rushed inside.
“Is everything alright?” she asked, I could see from the corner of my eye that she was facing me.
“Yes. Everything is fine. “I replied with clenched, teeth, then I turned back towards the nurse and gave her a sweet smile.
She nodded tensely.
I stood up from the bed, barefooted, and picked up my heels.
“I have a pair of flats you could use.” The nurse offered me.
I was hesitant at first, but I didn’t know how long I would have to wait till I got a hold of my chauffeur.
“I would appreciate that.”
I picked up my phone to call my chauffeur and told him to come pick me up alongside a bodyguard.
“The men have been caught by the police.”
Thane informed his intense gaze still on me.
A weight lifted off me. I was still scared about the possibility of getting kidnapped on my way home, but I couldn’t stay here with Thane. I was also dying to see my kids and best friend. I didn’t know if they were targeted too.
I tried calling Rosa before I called my chauffeur, but she didn’t answer her phone. She might have been fast asleep; I hope that is
what it is.
“Great. I am safe now; it’s been a long night; I’m going home.
Thane’s eyes narrowed. “I will drop you off at your place.”
No, I couldn’t stomach another minute with Thane. I don’t want to make more mess than I’ve already done.
“I can take care of myself,” I spat.
The nurse returned with a pair of flats and handed them to me. “Here you go, ma’am.”

I took the flats and slipped them on, my eyes never leaving Thane’s face. “Thank you,” I said to the nurse.
The nurse nodded and quickly exited the room, leaving Thane and me alone once again.
“You’re not leaving on your own. “Thane said.
I smiled sweetly. “Watch me.
“We’ll have to go to the police station tomorrow.” He sighed, sounding defeated.
“Officer Jerkins needs our statement. ”
With my back towards him, I nodded.

I placed my hand on the doorknob, ready to turn it open, when Thane’s hand closed around my wrist and the other he placed in
the door.
Thane smiled wistfully at me; the sight was so warm and heart–squeezing.
ה
He stretched his hand to reach for my hair but withdrew back.
Stay safe, Andera.” He whispered. I nodded in answer, pulling my hand from his grip before we did something more reckless
than a kiss. I expected him to move out of my way but instead, Thane leaned in and whispered into my ear, his breath brushing
the sensitive skin there.
It’s not over Andera, not by a long shot
I shuddered. I looked at Thane, and what I saw in his eyes, the look on his face, was enough to send me sprinting out of the door,
with my heart pounding erratically in my chest.
Outside, I was greeted by my chauffeur, who was waiting for me by the car, alongside a bodyguard.
“Home, ma’am?” he asked.
I nodded. “Yes, please.”
The drive home w
was
quiet, the road was empty and dark.
My mind was in a ruckus, Thane’s last word to me replaying over and over again. Those words weren’t ordinary, I knew. It was a
promise.
And when I had looked at his face, in his eyes, I saw a certainty that told me, indeed, it wasn’t over; if anything, Thane was just
starting to play back in my game.
