Chapter 11
Melissa’s pov.
I flopped down on the plush couch, kicking my shoes off while letting out a satisfied sigh. It’s been another day of my shopping
spree and I feel like the queen that I am. I mean, who needs a man when you’ve got his black card with unlimited spending power?
And let’s be real, Thane’s card was the perfect way to stick it to him after hey postponed our wedding without even
bothering to tell me.
Ten days had passed since I’d left Thane, and he hadn’t even bothered to come back. But that is okay because I am doing just fine
without him. In fact, I’m thriving.
I pulled out my phone and dialed my flight attendant, instructing her to book me a first–class ticket to London. I wasn’t bluffing
when I said I have options, many of them would take me in a heartbeat. After all, I’m Melissa. I’m a catch. I’m gorgeous and
intelligent, and I’ve got a closet full of designer clothes. I don’t need Thane and his confusion in my life.
Sebastian- one of Thane’s competitors, has been begging me to come back to London. I was playing hard to get at first, but I’m
not going to waste any more time. I won’t wail over a man when there are many dying to have a taste of me.
me again; it’s a
I tossed my clothes into my designer luggage, I’m leaving Seattle today. There’s no way in hell Thane would see m pity though; he lost a precious gem all because he wanted more time.
My phone starts ringing on the bed. It was Sebastian, or rather, “Sera” as I had saved him in my contacts. I answered,
purposefully making my voice slurry
“Hey, Sebastian.”
“Melissa, hearing you always makes my day. Are you on a plane yet?”
Sebastian asks with eagerness, making me smile; this is how it’s supposed to be. A man should dote on his woman, not cancel
their wedding for inexistent reasons.
“My flight attendant is working on it already. I’ll be on a plane soon.”
“That’s great! Then I can have you all to myself.”
Alright, talk to you later. I have to pack my things.”
“I’m counting down the minutes till you’re here, Melissa. ”
I could hear the smile in Sebastian’s voice. Why the hell did I even stay in Seattle for ten days? Thane had made a ridicule of me
twice. First, he dumped me some years back to marry his servant, and now he is postponing our wedding!
“Melissa you’ve been so dumb “I curse myself.
I resumed packing my things when my phone buzzed with a message. I pick it up, expecting to be notified by my flight attendant that my ticket is ready, but what I see makes my blood run cold. My eyes widen with horror at the image that comes next, and I

I stumbled backward, landing on the plush carpet with a thud, my heart racing like a jackrabbit. This couldn’t be happening.
A scream breaks free from my throat.
“What?…how?”
This can’t be possible, my mind must have been playing tricks on me. I’m sure I didn’t see the picture right. I walked back slowly towards where my phone lay on the floor with a crack on its screen.
It is what i think it is.
A photo of me and five other boys from high school at my father’s manor. It was taken the same day Dad went into cardiac arrest.
Below the picture was an ominous note to it.
“I know what you did Melissa. I know what happened to your father. “I gasp, the back of my eyes burn.
No one knew what happened that day, how is this possible?
“What do you want from me?”
I type and send with shaky hands. Sweat trickled down my face despite the hotel suite being cool.
My spine stiffened as I saw three moving dots below
Seconds later, another message comes through
“I want the world to know what a sick person you are.
“No, this can’t be happening.”
I screamed and screamed till my lungs couldn’t take it anymore. If the room wasn’t soundproof, security would have probably
rushed in by now and dragged me to an asylum. This can’t get out. Never. If this person exposes what I did, I’m done for.
I curled in a corner of the hotel suite, feeling utterly lost and confused. How is it that I’m being threatened for something I did
fifteen years ago? I have no one to turn to, and my dad is still in a coma. If this person exposes me…I can’t. I’ll die before that
happens.
‘I’ll give you whatever you want, I can give you any amount of money. Just name your price”
I send it again to the unknown number. I paced up and down, waiting for his reply. My phone buzzed but it was my flight
attendant.
I ignored her message. My heart beat rapidly against my ribcage. The air in the room felt too stuffy; if this person didn’t reply to
me soon, I might just die of trepidation.
A message comes again
“Your money’s no good to me

I take a moment to process what I just read, what else could he be doing this for if not money?

“I want you to go back to Thane and this time, stay.‘
Confusion hits me right in the face, of all the things in the world, this?
“Why this? And how are you connected to Thane? I can offer you any amount you want yet you chose this absurdity?”
‘Don’t sass with me, Melissa. If you want your secrets to remain hidden, you must leave the hotel you’re at and go back to Thane.
And by the way, you have only 24 hours to do so. I’ll be watching.”
Blocked.
The fucker blocked me.

Shit! I curse as I smash my phone on the floor.
“What nonsense!”
A primal scream tore free from my throat. In my rage. I tossed my bag over. I reached for the bottle of champagne by the bedside
table and smashed it into pieces.
By the time my anger calmed down a bit, I was standing in the middle of a wreck, with broken glasses and clothes on the floor:
Realization dawns on me
Someone wants me to be with Thane, and they’re desperate enough to dig out my hidden past and blackmail me with it.”
