“And why is there a coffin in the chapel? Why is my mother lying inside it!?”
His voice cracked as he began to sob, crying out, “Why did my mother pass away? Oh, Moon Goddess, this can’t be true!”
I replied calmly, “Monica passed away the day you agreed to bond with me.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
I laughed coldly. “I did tell you. But you accused me of cursing her. You said no one knew her condition better than you.”
“You even warned me that you never wanted to hear anything about her from my mouth again, or I’d lose everything.”
“I respected your wishes, so I didn’t bring it up again.”
Luke tried to interrupt, “I did say that, but I only-‘
“And you were too busy swearing a blood oath with Alina.”
“If you had stayed just ten more minutes, the funeral home would have come to collect Monica’s body. But instead, you whistled
your way out, happily going off to swear that oath with Alina.”
“You whistled, Luke. Right after your mother passed away. You whistled.”
“Everything you did was for Alina’s mother.”
Luke fell silent on the other end.
“Oh, and one more thing,” I added.
“The hospital I stayed in was the same one where Alina’s mother was admitted. A Healer’s scroll with patient records fell to the
ground, and I happened to see it.”
“Turns out, Alina’s mother doesn’t have a terminal illness. She just has slightly high blood pressure.”
“Luke Blaze, you’d better pray. Pray that this whole act from the mother and daughter wasn’t a revenge scheme against Monica
–
– just because Monica wanted me to marry you.”
“Pray that they didn’t stage all of this just to make you resent me.”
“Pray that Alina truly loves you.”

“After all, you two took such beautiful bonding photos, didn’t you?”
Luke said nothing, but he didn’t hang up either. Just then, I heard a voice in the background–a staff member speaking to Luke.
“Alpha, as per your request, we’ve delivered the photoshoot of you and Luna Alina.”
“We’ve kept them in perfect condition. Please inspect them.”
I heard gasps and murmurs from the guests at the scene.
“Oh, Moon Goddess, it’s a half–naked photo of the Alpha and Alina.”
“Why are they on display at his mother Monica’s funeral? Monica and Alina’s mother were sworn enemies in life!”
“Did Alpha marry Alina just to ensure Monica can’t rest in peace?”
I couldn’t hear anything else. The call ended.
