Chapter 29
Laura raised an eyebrow. “So, have you figured out a way yet?”
Adora smirked, unhurried. “It’s already in motion. Once I push her into a dead end, things will fall into place.”
She wasn’t in a rush.
In fact, she rather enjoyed toying with Ruby–watching her spiral into frustration, panic, and desperation, constantly putting on a pitiful act while secretly fearing exposure.
“It’s like a cat playing with a mouse,” Adora mused.
“A cat doesn’t just kill its prey right away. It plays with it first, lets the poor thing get scared out of its mind, and only when it’s had its fun does it finally go in for the kill.”
Laura grinned, nodding enthusiastically.
“Exactly! That’s the way to do it! Let her suffer. Then, once you’re done playing, send her straight to prison!”
After browsing for a while, Adora finally settled on the furniture she wanted.
She left her address and contact details with the store, arranging for delivery.
The two had lunch together before Adora dragged Laura along to a real estate agency.
She was looking for a spacious, fully furnished apartment–a second–hand property that had never been lived in.
Laura leaned in and whispered, “Adora, with the square footage you’re asking for, that’s at least six million dollars. You sure yo
“Relax, I’ve got money.” Adora shot her a playful wink.
She had twenty million dollars sitting in her stock trading account.
A six–million–dollar apartment was nothing.
Besides, over the past few days, several investment firms had privately messaged her on trading forums, offering her a position
as a professional fund manager.
She wasn’t in a hurry to accept.
Her body was still recovering–she wasn’t ready for high–pressure, high–stakes work just yet.
But once she was back to full strength, she’d take her time picking the best offer.
She also planned to finish her undergrad degree and pursue a master’s in finance.
There was a lot to do, and she had time.

The real estate agent listened to her request and immediately said, “Miss Matthews, I actually have a listing that fits your criteria perfectly. It’s a duplex. Would you be interested in taking a look?”
Adora turned to Laura. “Do you need to get back to school soon?”
“As long as I’m back before four, I’m good.” Laura grinned.
“Let’s go check it out!”
They headed to the property together.
Just as Adora had requested, the apartment was move–in ready–fully furnished with brand–name appliances and high–end
décor.
“This place was renovated with premium materials, costing over two hundred thousand dollars,” the agent explained.
“The owner never lived here, not even for a single night. The price is quite fair, and if you’re interested, there’s room for
negotiation.”
Adora glanced at Laura. “What do you think?”
Laura nodded in approval. “It’s great. Fully furnished, stylish decor that won’t go out of fashion anytime soon. You could move in
right away.”
Adora meticulously inspected every corner, checking for any issues.
When she saw that even the rooftop waterproofing was done with care, her satisfaction only grew.
“Why is the owner selling?” she asked curiously.
The agent replied, “Seems like their workplace is too far from here. They found this place too inconvenient.”
Laura nearly choked. “That’s it? Just because of the commute?”
The agent shrugged with a helpless laugh. “What can I say? The world of the rich is beyond our understanding.”
Adora took another walk through the place before making up her mind.
“Alright, I’ll take it.”
Laura quickly grabbed her arm and whispered, “Babe, this is seven million dollars. Are you sure you don’t want to think it over?
You’re not shopping for groceries here!”
“I don’t need to think further. I feel a connection with this place.”
Adora was as decisive as ever.
She placed a deposit on the spot and asked the agent to arrange a meeting with the seller.
Since she could pay in full immediately, she figured she could negotiate a small discount–every bit saved counted.

After securing the apartment, she made another stop to buy a laptop before heading home in high spirits.
Later that day, the home furnishing store delivered the wardrobe and desk.
Lilian’s jaw nearly dropped when she saw the delivery crew moving furniture into the maid’s quarters. “Did you buy these?”
