Chapter 17
Adora’s expression froze.
Her brows knitted tightly as she glared at Louis. “I am meeting him! I haven’t even finished yelling at him yet…”
Meanwhile, Laura had gotten out of the car and moved to the sidewalk, looking through the restaurant window.
When she finally spotted her friend, she stomped her foot anxiously.
“Oh no, you’ve got the wrong guy! The Lewis you’re looking for is two tables ahead! His name is Lewis Burns! Who the hell are you yelling at?”
The distance had been too far, so Laura hadn’t recognized the man sitting across from Adora.
Adora’s face flushed crimson, her mind buzzing in chaos.
At that moment, Nathan finally arrived, fashionably late as always.
Seeing a stunning woman sitting across from his friend, he was briefly taken aback.
“Louis, who’s this? Wait… she looks familiar. Isn’t she-”
As the former top socialite of the capital, Adora’s name had once been well–known.
Anyone with a bit of status in high society had at least heard of her.
Before Nathan could finish, Adora abruptly stood up, ready to leave.
Louis‘ lips moved slightly as he taunted, “Leaving just like that, Miss Matthews?”
Adora’s earlier confidence had vanished.
She schooled her expression back into its usual cold elegance. “What do you want?”
It wasn’t until she stood that she noticed the other man two tables away, a short–haired man in glasses and a white dress shirt.
But compared to Louis, his appearance and aura were worlds apart.
“You insulted the wrong person. Shouldn’t you apologize?” Louis asked, amusement flickering in his eyes.
“Sorry.” Adora was direct.
She made a mistake, and there was nothing more to say.
But Louis wasn’t about to let this golden opportunity slip away.
He let out a mocking scoff. “That apology lacked any sincerity. You were once the most distinguished lady in high society, but
now you’re nothing more than a crude, reckless woman from the wilderness?”

Chapter 17
Nathan’s brows twitched. “Louis!”
That was too much.
It was like rubbing salt into an open wound.
Adora clenched her fists slightly, pressing her lips together as she looked at him.
After hesitating for two seconds, she asked, “What kind of apology do you want?”
Louis smirked, leaning back in his chair as he spoke slowly and deliberately. “I want a proper ninety–degree bow from you, and I want to hear you say it loud and clear–‘Dr. Walker, I’m sorry, I was wrong.“”
Adora stared at him, her eyes widening in humiliation.
Nathan tried to intervene again. “Louis, don’t take it too far.”
But Louis remained unmoved.
No one had ever dared to slander or disrespect him like this before!
Yes, Adora had suffered terribly, but that had nothing to do with him.
Why should he be expected to tolerate and forgive her unconditionally?
The standoff between them turned tense, the atmosphere frozen.
Just then, Laura rushed in, grabbing Adora’s hand anxiously before turning to Louis with endless apologies.
“I’m so sorry, Mr. Walker! It was a mistake, just a misunderstanding!”
She was beyond terrified.
She never expected her best friend to have yelled at Louis!
Everyone knew that Louis, the youngest son of the Walker family’s patriarch, was not only highly respected and a brilliant doctor
but also notoriously cold and distant.
More importantly, he was from a generation above them!
Though only a few years older, he was technically their senior.
Louis lifted his chin slightly, his gaze unwavering as he demanded, “I want her to apologize.”
“This…” Laura was on the verge of tears.
“Mr. Walker, Adora was only trying to help me…”
Before she could finish, Adora suddenly pulled her aside.
Then, without hesitation, she bowed at a full ninety–degree angle in front of everyone and declared loudly, “Dr. Walker, I’m

sorry. I was wrong.”
Only then did Louis curve his lips slightly in satisfaction, though his eyes remained icy.
Around them, the other customers turned to stare.
Nathan quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “It was just a misunderstanding. Now that it’s all cleared up, let’s move on.
“Thank you, and sorry for the trouble.”
