Chapter 29
Amelia was so shocking that she froze on the spot for some time. Her whole body broke out in goosebumps,
An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth, What could that mean? Who wrote it? She wondered.
On after another question popped up in her mind. Fear as well as curiosity overwhelmed her.
She lifted the shred to her nose and was shocked to smell blood. The one wrote it must harbor intense hatred.
All of a sudden, someone patted her on the back.
A shudder ran down her spine. Amelia gasped and turned around, only to see Tessa, the nurse, standing right behind her.
Tessa was beaming “Great news for your mother. The donor has agreed on liver transplantation. The operation is scheduled comorrow.”
“So soon! That’s great!” Amelia exclaimed.
“Yes. It’s a rare and precious opportunity
Amelia breathed a sign of relief. “I’m so happy”
She stuffed the shred into her pocket silently, for fear that the thrilling incident might influence the operation.
For the whole night, she tossed about without getting a wink of sleep. It was not until Evelyn was wheeled into the operating room that she grew a bin relaxed.
Outside the operating room, Aunt Donna held Amelia hands in hers. “Don’t worry, Amelia. Your mom is so brave. She can make it.”
Amelia sighed. “It’s not the operation that makes me worry. It’s the future. Mom has spent so much effort and energy running her restaurant. She cannot do it anymore after discharge. It must be hard for her to accept that
Donna rejoined disapprovingly. “If I say, she should have long closed her restaurant. How many times she has cried behind the scenes! Somebody has been sending her threatening messages. She was frightened! I told her to call the police. But she wouldn’t, fearing enlarging it would scare her customers away! I’m glad she doesn’t have to run her restaurant now. That’d bring some peace.”
“What‘ Threatening messages?” Amelia was astounded.
“You don’t know it?” Donna pealized she had accidentally let out a secret, “well, don’t worry. It’s nothing big
Amelia’s heart skipped a beat. Thinking of the bloody shred she had seen, fear and apprehension grasped her heart.

In discomposure, she happened to behold a familiar figure.
It was the man that had appeared in Evelyn’s ward. He was in a black jack and green cargo pants, his head down, the facial features of which was barely visible under the hat.
Amelia walked towards him. She wanted to say hello and invite him to join her waiting.
But the man suddenly turned away and disappeared before Amelia could approach him.
It alerted Amelia. She didn’t know who this man was, but judging by his sneaky look, she didn’t think him reliable or tristworthy.
Is he hired by Theor Amelia wondered. She was not sure but she would not risk exposing Evelyn within his touch
After the operation, she asked the doctor to transfer Evelyn to another ward, while she herself stayed in the previous one, waiting for the nightfall.
She had this premonition that furtive man would visit Evelyn again.
She didn’t guess it wrong. When the clock ticked twelve and there was not a sound in the ward, Amelia hear the door was open with a slight click.
She lay on the bed, waiting the man to d
draw near.
When the man walked closer and she saw by die moonlight that he was right at the bedside, she jumped up from the bed in no second and grasped the man by his arm.
Then she tipped the switch and the room was lighted.
Before the man could adjust his eyes to the light, Amelia had snatched the cap and mask off his fire.
