Chapter 26
Vince felt a burning sensation in his throat. He tugged at his collar, stood up from the sofa, and walked to the mirror.
“This outh suits you very well. Your fair skin goes perfectly with the red color. It’s a shame your leg hasn’t healed yet, so you can’t try on many beautiful shoes. I’ve asked them to reserve the new arrivals for you. Once your injury is better, you can come back and try them on”
“No, no, this is already more than enough. Too much.”
“You helped Sierra out, so consider these gifts from me, a celebration of our great victory.”
The array of gifts was overwhelming, making her feel excited and slightly dizzy.
For Vince, these items might be just a flick of the wrist away. But for Amelia, they felt too heavy.
It wasn’t about the money. During her marriage to Theo, she had lived quite comfortably, almost like a wealthy lady, always having enough money.
It was just that she had grown up in poverty and rarely spent much on clothes or appearances
Theo, who claimed to be a dumb guy, often used work as an excuse not to accompany her shopping, let alone prepare any surprises or romantic gestures. The birthday party was a rare moment of romance, and the last one.
In three years of marriage. Theo had never given her what Vince had offered in just a few days. This stark contrast made her feel a mix of emotions, a sense of loss for her youth.
“Could he be so accurate in hiring a woman’s tastes because he has been with so many? she wondered.
Before she could think it through, Vince waved at her, “Let’s go
They left the mall with bags in hand, followed by two staff members who helped carry the items to the parking lot.
As soon as Amelia got into the car, she yawned. Her mind was excited, but her body was tired. She leaned back in the passenger seat and dozed off.
Vince started the car, keeping a close eye on her expression. He felt like a student who had just finished an exam, silently awaiting his grade and the
teacher’s comments.
Seeing Amelia about to fall asleep, he finally couldn’t hold back his question. “Do you like the things I got you?”
Without hesitation, Amcha replied, “Of course, I do.”
Beautiful clothes, expensive jewelry–all woman would love
e them.
A handsome man, exclusive company, grand romantic gestures–few women could remain completely unmoved.
But she wasn’t sure if she should allow herself to feel this way.
In the blink of an eye, they arrived at her apartment. Vince carried all the bags upstairs. The old building had no elevator, and he managed to carry right or nine bags up to the sixth floor in one go
Amelia went ahead to open the door and turn on the lights. As she turned around, she bumped into Vince;
With a thud, all the packages fell to the floor.
Moonlight streamed through the window, illuminating the room like daylight. Their shadows danced on the walls like a puppet show,
Their eyes met, the air thick with unspoken affection. The cold wind rattled the window, making a creaking sound.
With every tick of the second hand, her heart pounded like a drum, and her breathing became heavy.
Couldn’t remember who started it, but the kiss was gentle at first, like a dragonfly skimming the water, soft and simple.
This jolted Amelia awake, and she instinctively stepped back, wanting to end the awkward moment. But Vince’s hand quickly moved from her back so the nape of her neck, pulling her in for a precise, unavoidable kiss.
Her nostrils were filled with his scent, a mix of grass and male nunk.
A loud ringing filled her ears, so intense she couldn’t tell if it was her racing heart or the excitement of experiencing romance after so long.
Slowly, the kiss became more intense, I
like an inescapable net,
“King, ring, ring”
Suddenly, a sharp ringtone shattered the moment was Vince’s phone
Finally, it stopped. Amelia’s heart was racing, her breath coming in quick gasps, her lips still tingling. She casually glanced at the phone screen and saw “Sierra” displayed.
Vince turned to answer the call, but in the small room, she could still hear the voice on the other end.
Sierra cried out, “Vince, please come now. I’m in big trouble. I’m scared…”
