“No sense of decorum at all–acting like you’re dying over a little injury.”
Now here she was on the phone, trying to sound sweet. “Leah, could you please come back and see Harvey?
“Ever since you left, he’s been running a fever and refusing treatment, saying he’s atoning for his sins. It turned into pneumonia,
and now he’s drinking and popping sedatives.
“You’re the only girlfriend he’s ever acknowledged–how can you just watch him die? Please, come talk to him.”
I laughed coldly and cut her off. “It’s just a little injury. How dare you bother me over that?”
She started yelling, but I hung up and blocked her without a second thought.
Harvey kept trying to get my sympathy after that, but I ignored him. Eventually, he figured out my hatred wasn’t just for show. Still, he stayed delusional–like if he acted devoted long enough, I’d magically forgive him. He even dragged my name into every
new product launch.
Sick of his nonsense, I warned him three times before filing charges for harassment and intentional harm. With all the scars and
evidence he left me, it was a breeze.
Harvey got arrested fast. When the case went public, people freaked out–no one could believe the devoted rich guy they admired
was actually a monster.

The day of the trial was the last time I saw Harvey. He looked like a ghost–gaunt, hunched over, eyes empty–just staring at me
from the defendant’s podium. No matter what the judge asked, he pled guilty to everything.
When it was his turn to speak, he glanced at me, guilt all over his face.
“Leah, I’m sorry.”
I just dug at my ear, unfazed.
If an apology could fix everything, what’s the point of the law?
After the sentencing, I walked out of the courthouse feeling lighter than ever. Mom was waiting outside, her face lighting up
when she saw me.
“Honey, I booked the most luxurious world cruise. Let’s go on a vacation!”
I smiled and nodded.
Time to start fresh.
