Chapter 7
Out of nowhere, Vivi lunged at me, a knife clenched in her hand.
Harvey shouted, “WATCH OUT!” and threw himself between us.

The sickening sound of metal hitting flesh echoed as his face twisted in pain, blood soaking his clothes. People around us
screamed.
Vivi’s vicious glare crumbled into panic, her hands shaking.
“Harvey! I didn’t mean to hurt you! That wretch came back from the dead! I thought if I killed her, we could still have a future-”
Before she could finish, Harvey’s bodyguards pinned her down. Cops and paramedics swarmed the place. I got dragged to the
station to give my statement, and by the time I signed off on the report, word came that Harvey’s surgery was done.
Not wanting more drama, I grabbed my bag and headed for the door–only to see Harvey stumble out of the ICU, barely able to
stand. He dropped to his knees, clutching my legs with all his strength.
The anesthesia made his words slur, but I caught it.
“Don’t… leave me…”
How pathetic.
I looked down at him–crying on the floor–and all I could think about was that day I showed up at his hospital bed after
donating part of my liver. I’d been worried sick, ignoring my own pain just to make sure he was okay. Back then, I loved him
enough to endure anything.
Not anymore. Once was enough.
I knelt down, peeled his hands off one by one, and locked eyes with him. “What right do you have to make that demand? I loved
you with everything I had–gave you my heart and soul.
“And how did you repay me? You faked being sick, lying in that hospital bed while your so–called friends mocked me. You
stomped all over my feelings like they were trash. Even after seeing me hurt, you didn’t care. You used corrosive chemicals to
make me suffer even more.
“You wanted me gone–well, I’m gone. Now you’re begging me to stay? Think about it–what right do you have to ask me that?”
A flicker of guilt crossed his face. After a long, strained silence, he tried to push back.
“I’ve already ruined the companies of everyone who hurt you. I sent Vivi to prison. I even took a knife for you. After all that… why
can’t we start over?”
I couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh. “Vivi fell down the stairs herself and blamed me. Even when we were dating, you kept grilling me about it. I told you the truth over and over.
