The item that had fallen on the ground was a silver ring. A few numbers were etched on the inside of it–the date Hansel had proposed to me. We’d strolled by the river, and he’d plucked a long blade of grass before tying it around my finger and popping the question.
The following day, he’d bought me a silver band as my engagement ring. He’d told me that he would give me a diamond ring as my wedding ring once he had the money.
I’d been so blinded by love that I’d stupidly eaten it all up. I’d proudly worn a cheap thing like it was a treasure. The day I’d gotten it, I’d taken it to an accessories shop and had the owner etch the date to commemorate it.
Now, that date was carved on the inside of this silver ring that had fallen out of the sack–9th September. The proposal had come shortly after the incident at the hotel. It was then that I’d fallen into his web of vengeance.
The 9th of September and my 99–dollar white dress symbolized the 99 years and more that I wanted to spend with Hansel. Yet, ultimately, everything ended in the bitter irony of me misjudging the person I loved and paying the price with my life.
Why had the ring fallen from the sack, though? Wasn’t it supposed to be on my finger? Unless… it was my body in that sack!
God, had they dug up my body?
I widened my eyes in horror and stared in the direction the men had left. I’d wanted to find my body so I could rest in peace, but it had now been relocated. What were they going to do with it?
No, I couldn’t let them take it. I had to have a proper funeral and be laid to rest.
The van roared to life and started moving. I immediately went after them. Even if I couldn’t stop them, I could follow them and find out where they were taking my body. Perhaps the stars would align and give me a miracle, allowing me to inform those still alive.
However, I didn’t get to follow them for long. The scene suddenly shifted, and I found myself before a police station. A cab pulled up just then, and a long leg emerged from the front passenger seat. Joy filled my eyes when I
saw its owner.
It was Jayson! I lunged at him like he was my savior and gestured wildly. “Jayjay, I saw my body! It’s buried in a small forest. No, wait! It’s been moved away now!
“Hurry up and tell the police to stop a van with this license plate number. Tell the police to check the surveillance cameras and stop it, Jayjay!”
I spoke anxiously, but Jayson passed through my body calmly and headed straight into the police station. There was no way he could’ve heard me. My panic and anxiety meant nothing.
I had no choice but to follow him in. I slapped him on the shoulders and kicked his legs, trying to make him discover me. What if it happened?
He felt nothing, though. He entered an office and found a police officer on duty. It was the same officer who had received him and Hansel the other day.
The first thing Jayson did was to follow up on my case. “Are there any updates on Lara’s case, Officer Crawford?”
Officer Crawford sighed softly when he saw the hope in Jayson’s eyes. “You don’t have to come to the station daily to ask for updates, Mr. Summerton. We’ll inform you guys the moment we find out anything new.
“We don’t currently have any new clues on Elara’s case, but we’re doing our best to find whatever we can. Please

head home and wait for us to call you.”
Jayson’s gaze colored with disappointment. My heart ached at the sight, and my anxiety grew.
I’d already discovered my body, but I couldn’t tell him about it. I whipped around and tried to sweep off the papers, pens, and folders on the desk. I even tried to do something to the computer, hoping to make some noise and make them realize I was there.
