Chapter 17
I felt chills running down my spine. I never would’ve guessed that Hansel was playing with my feelings for revenge! What grudge did he have against me?
He was an important figure in the business industry, while was only a nobody living paycheck to paycheck. If he hadn’t approached me, I wouldn’t even have had the chance to talk to him.
What grudge would there be between us? Why did he want revenge?
I couldn’t hear what Violet told Josie as she spoke really softly. But it didn’t matter anymore.
It might be a misunderstanding, or I had perhaps offended him somehow. Eventually, my sincerity failed to touch him, and he insisted on taking his revenge.
To think that the wicked women before me would worry that he had fallen for me and schemed to drive us apart. Hah! That wasn’t even necessary.
If Hansel had ever truly liked me, Violet wouldn’t have been able to trick him that easily. After all, he was intelligent. Such a petty trick wouldn’t be able to deceive him unless he intentionally ignored the truth and didn’t
care.
He just couldn’t be bothered about the truth.
Using my betrayal as an excuse, he just thought it gave him more reason to take revenge against me. It was only an excuse to wrap up his scheme.
A light drizzle cast a gloomy atmosphere outside. Floating mid–air, I looked up at the cloudy sky. The rain wasn’t heavy, but it slapped hard against my flimsy ghost.
I’d been blind to Hansel’s true nature. I deserved to be deceived.
Crumpling under the harsh truth, I dropped to the ground. I curled up and sobbed like a wandering ghost that had nowhere to call home.
In fact, I was actually a ghost already.
Hansel, please just let all that had happened between us end here.
However, it didn’t end there. I was soon back by his side.
He was in the police department. An officer said, “Mr. Frost, you previously said that we should inform you once we discovered new leads on Elara’s whereabouts. That’s why we called you.”
With his legs crossed, Hansel leaned back in his seat, his chin resting on his hand. He carried a demeanor so casual that it seemed like he was there to attend a friend’s gathering. But it was also through that same demeanor that his naturally imposing air was manifested.
He let out a low hum.
Gazing at his icy expression, I no longer felt any trace of love toward him. On the contrary, I started despising his self–important attitude. He behaved as though no one would dare to offend him.
I snorted before abruptly deciding to float onto his head and sit on it.
Those alive wouldn’t dare offend him, but he couldn’t do anything to a ghost like me!
With my arms folded, I sat on his head like it was a toilet, calmly listening to the officer as he told Hansel about the newly found leads.

I had no more lingering feelings for Hansel. All I wanted was for the police to locate my body quickly so I could rest in peace. Then, we’d no longer have anything to do with each other.
The officer said, “We went through Elara’s call history on the day of the incident and discovered that she’d been on the phone with a contact for more than ten minutes after leaving the yacht. The owner of the number is Chery! Moore.
“Through our investigation, we discovered that she was on very close terms with Elara. They talked on the phone for quite some time. Their conversation might reveal Elara’s whereabouts.”
Hansel remained unconcerned. His lips curled up into a cold smirk. “From now onward, you don’t have to inform me of discoveries that are unrelated to me, such as this. You’re just wasting my time.”
He had just finished speaking when another voice barked, Hansel Frost, how could you say such heartless words? Do you even have a conscience? How could you say that after all that Elara has done for you?”
My heart felt warm when I heard her voice, and my eyes teared up.
The voice belonged to Cheryl, my best friend. She was finally back!
